    why we like him?

First-round draft pick Michael Vick is an explosive player who, after only one second-string season in the NFL and at the age of 22, began leading the Falcons on the front line and striking fear in the hearts of defensemen. He also went to the Pro Bowl that season and achieved career highs in pass completions (231) and yards (2,936).

    why is he famous?

Michael Vick is known as a repeat Pro Bowler and for being a wild and reckless quarterback. He's also known for signing one of the largest contracts ($130 million plus a $37 million signing bonus for 10 years) in sports history, surpassing Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb's lucrative earnings. And he's known as the alleged herpes-spreading Ron Mexico, for giving an obscene gesture to fans after losing a game to the Saints in 2006, and, perhaps most damaging, for allegedly owning and operating Bad Newz Kennels -- a dog-fighting organization.

Growing up poor in a tough neighborhood in Newport News, Virginia, Michael Vick stayed out of trouble thanks to football. A childhood love of the game led to serious dedication to the sport once he began high school, and soon a great talent began to emerge. An impressive high school career made him a target for the scout of every college in the country.

In only two years of college ball, Vick won an ESPY and Archie Griffin Award, and was one of only three freshmen ever to finish as high as third in the polling for the Heisman Trophy and the only freshman invited to the Heisman ceremony. The industrious Vick was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons as their top draft pick.

    bio

Michael Dwayne Vick was born on June 26, 1980, in Newport News, a town near Norfolk, Virginia. A port town, Newport News had fallen on hard times during Vick's childhood, and Vick's personal experience was full of hardship. Vick's mother, Brenda, was only 16 when he was born, and his father, Michael Boddie, was 17. The two had already had a daughter before Michael Vick, and would have another two children before marrying in 1985. Michael and his siblings saw little of their father, who was in the army and later worked long hours in the shipyards. Michael's mother worked at Kmart and drove a school bus while she raised her children.

Trivia: Vick is the cousin of what New Orleans Saints quarterback?

The child had many surgeries including plastic surgery. The pitbull was a trained fighting dog......so you personally know that the dog was a trained fighting dog or are you assuming because you listen to some animal rights advocate say it on the radio or TV?,,,,,see what I am saying you don't know much BG......and probably the dog was just being what he is a dog, that was gentically bred for aggressiveness, gameness and fighting ability, are the owners responsible = yes,,,,,, but did the owners really understand the nature and genetics of the breed "pitbull"....So now I guess you advocate killing all pitbulls?

FYI -I'm half black and hispanic, and my husband is black. Vick had it made and ruined it by breaking the law. If he was white or any other "color", the same would apply. Period. I guess you assumed that I am white just because I live in the South? Or because I disagree with your views? I'm now racist because I don't agree with you? The only people who are against this criminal act are white? I'm confused.

One more thing, I'd like to applaud you for pulling the race card. That shows how prejudice you really are. I've said time and time again, this is about right and wrong. This has nothing to do with race. Call me all the names you want, I just abide the American law. I guess that makes me Un-American. Great logic!

The child had many surgeries including plastic surgery. The pitbull was a trained fighting dog. The courts want to put the dog to sleep. The owners, who are white, want their dog back. Do you think they should compensated for their dog, the dog that the courts took from them? It sounds like attempted murder and a huge lawsuit to me. The owners should be ultimately responsible. Can you see now how training a dog to fight & using it for dogfighting is a safety issue?

Just for further clarification, whomever posted the comments under "BG", that was not me. Regardless of your comments here, I will not change my mind. I agree with the law. Just because you believe that a law is illegal, you cannot break it and not pay the consequences. That goes for everyone, black, white, purple, etc.

I really don't care which you choose to do,,,,,,now for your assertion that you're not white, even if you are black "which I seriously doubt" are some black people that are prejudice against there own race and you BG are prejudice. What your prejudice stems from I don't know and you may try to hide it but that does not mean it doesn't exist in the recesses of your mind ,,,,,,BamaGal says: One more thing, BG is not me.....BamaGal says: Just so you can get your facts straight, I'm not white......Is this all you have to say? You can't come up with some response to the posts here, come on keep posting and expose the animal fanatic ideology and your limited knowledge.

They can no longer do that, the soldiers are interacting with the Iraqi's and the children. The next generation of children can never be lied to about Americans. They can not be indoctrinated into indiscriminately hating Americans anymore. They are the next generation of leaders there. Is your mind capable of grasping what I am getting at here? = safer world for our children ....... As long as Saddam was leader of Iraq he ensured they had a safe place to train to kill Americans. As long as he was in power he would continue to provide this safe haven while hiding behind the UN cloak where 75% of the third world countries follow the same religion as the terrorists some only slightly less hostile toward Americans. With the example that was set in removing him from power many countries that otherwise would've never helped combat Terrorist acts are now actively engaged in fighting it.

"In fact, if you tried to go back and put together a typical American of the 1940s or '50s, that would be a violent sport animal user.".....Got it yet the humane society of the US buys the media, bribes judges and pays doctors to lie all for one effort,,, to get stupid people to give them money by showing them a puppy and trying to make criminals of innocent people that don't agree with their ideology, and they use those same stupid people to take away the heritage, culture and freedom of the animal sportsmen!

Very few violent sport animal users had jobs in government, education or the armed forces, and very few were on welfare or unemployed. Almost 40 percent were "in the white-collar ranks of sales, administration or business positions," almost 30 percent were "skilled blue collar" and about 25 percent were "semi-skilled blue collar." They reported that "Devotees of violent animal sports show no psychological abnormalities... There are no serious psychological differences between those who engage in this behavior and those who do not. Certainly there are no signs of psychotic behavior.....the only studies that states violent animal use leads to violence against humans is the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine which is financed by the Humane Society of the US!
