Gears of War: The Movie DOA?
First the Halo movie, now this. It looks like the Gears of War motion picture might be dead on arrival as New Line Cinema is said to be bawking at the film's projected budget.
"New Line Cinema will most likely not move forward with (Gears of War) at all. Our source is saying that the studio has concerns with ballooning budget of the film," according to IESB.
The Moderately Evil Overlord Joins Turbine
- 1 Comment
The latest gossip from around the sewing circle is that long time Dark Age of Camelot Producer Walter Yarbrough has been hired by Turbine to produce an unannounced MMORPG for the company. In other Dark Age of Camelot news, that would mean that Walt is no longer at Mythic (cough).

The updated, grand total of people I know at Mythic is now less than, or equal to zero.

Next week I'm going to Epic to play some Unreal Tournament 3. I better get me some pants!

P.S. - Are you a member of the mole people? Does the color white affect you like sun does a Vampire? Then you may be pleased that Crazy Vincent made a bunch of skins for the site that include: tinted, slate and classic colors with normal or enlarged font sizes. It's pretty easy to install. Firefox users need the stylish extension, and IE/Opera users need to add a new style sheet to their browser. Please note, we do not support/endorse/etc the skins and use them at your own risk, etc, etc, etc ... Anyways, thanks Jason. :)

Today's TGIF question:

What games are on your most played list last week?

You can see mine in the related games links below.

Crysis CEO Poops on Console Shooters
Ah, a man after my own heart. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli was interviewed at Game Informer about a number of topics, including but not limited to: Crysis, DX10, why DX10.1 doesn't matter, his thoughts on UbiSoft making Far Cry 2 and his feelings about Halo 3 and console shooters in general.
GI: So you’re not excited for Halo 3?

Yerli: No. [But] I don’t want to talk badly about it. The trailer looked great. I know there are millions of people who love it. I tried to play Halo 1; I tried to play Halo 2. (laughs) I really didn’t get it & it didn’t get me. [...] It’s not that it isn't possible [to make a good shooter on a console], but console shooters are at the level of PC shooters 5-6 years ago. The gameplay has to be more sophisticated – more thinking [than] shooting.

^^Answer slightly edited since English isn't Cevat's primary language^^
RockStar Lawyers Object to EA's Simpsons Game
- 6 Comments
Apparently they don't like being parodied:

EA's forthcoming The Simpsons game parodies 30 years of videogaming and gaming IPs, but there are games companies that have refused to see the funny side of things.

"I was always under the impression that when you do parody, it's a sign of respect... If we make fun of Grand Theft Auto, we're not going to hurt the sales of Grand Theft Auto... But yeah, we've definitely had some reactions - we've had to pull stuff from the game", The Simpsons lead designer Greg Rizzer revealed to us in an interview earlier this week.

"But that's cool to me", Rizzer continued. "It's cool to still know, I feel, that the industry's been waiting for a game like this to come along. It's been too long since we really had one, and of course [there's] The Simpsons being the perfect vehicle to poke fun at the games industry."

Sitar Hero sounds great, though.

Arcade Classic Space Ace Goes HD
Digital Leisure is at it again, bringing another laser disc-based arcade game into the HD era:

GORMLEY, Ontario , Canada (October 4, 2007) — For the first time ever you can experience the stunning classical animation of Space Ace in true High Definition. This release of Don Bluth's legendary animated arcade game features video transferred directly from the original film source, delivering the sharpest images and most vibrant colors ever – even better than the original laser disc release.

The follow-up to last year's release of Dragon's Lair PC HD, Space Ace PC HD also comes with a completely new five channel surround sound audio mix. The original audio has been cleaned and remastered to eliminate any impure background audio then analyzed to determine the best placement to immerse the players in the action. With the striking visuals and remarkable 5.1 surround sound audio, Space Ace HD offers fans an experience well beyond the arcade.

There Will be No Ass. Creed Demo
Aw, shucks. It looks like there won't be a demo for Assassin's Creed according to this interview at GameTrailers. Why not? According to Jade, "the game is designed as a "sandbox" style of game and as such it would be too difficult to cut down a portion of the game to show as a demo of the title."

The PC version was delayed until next year, so the 360 and PS3 versions can be our demo.

Flight Sim X DX9 vs. DX10
Phil Taylor's Blog has been updated with detailed information regarding the DX10 version of Flight Simulator X, shipping with the just-gone-gold Acceleration expansion pack, and later as a patch for users not purchasing the addon. In his latest entry, the FSX developer admits the release of the oft talked about DX10 bullshot was a mistake, explains that the DX10 renderer works much more efficiently than the DX9 one, and also reveals that third-party addons made using older technology will no longer work with the DX10 mode, much to their annoyance. As a parting gift, Phil offered the very first, real, FSX DX9 vs. DX10 comparison image:

There appears to be some confusion: The image to the left is the original, fake DX10 comparison. The image to the right is the real, final, complete, as will be seen on people's computers comparison.

I think I'll be picking up a copy of PGR4 today... While I'm not the biggest console player out there, I do appreciate certain genres on them. Plus, there is no PC version...

Do you prefer to play racing games on the PC or a console?
