Autos – 49,000 union workers walked out of Chrysler plants across the country today at 11AM EST. Negotiations between the two sides that were ongoing the past 24 hours failed to produce a tentative agreement for a new four-year contract.

Autos – GM just dropped a bomb by announcing that the base price of its highly anticipated rear-wheel-drive G8 sedan will be below $28k. The high performance V8-powered model, the G8 GT, will even start below $30k. This is thousands below what analysts expected.

Autos – It will be powered by Subaru's 108 HP 1.5L boxer engine, but the car will weigh less than 2,500 lbs. This will help Toyota keep the car efficient in terms of fuel consumption, but also sporty thanks to the low weight and rear-wheel drive.

Autos – Reports had said that the UAW's strike would not be a lasting one, and they were right. News comes in this morning that the UAW and General Motors have reached a tentative agreement this morning, allowing the 73,000 workers who had walked out to go back to work.

Autos – At 11AM, workers numbering 73,000 at 59 General Motors plants walked off the job after the automaker and the UAW failed to reach an agreement on a new contract. The question now is how long GM can survive with its plants idle.
