JD Scholarships
At OU Law, the scholarship process takes place in several stages. Many scholarships are awarded to incoming first-year students shortly after admittance to the College of Law. We also reserve many scholarships for first, second, and third-year students that are distributed during both Fall and Spring semesters.

Incoming Student Scholarships
All OU Law applications completed by the March 15th deadline will be considered for academic scholarships. No separate scholarship application is required. The Scholarship Committee typically distributes available funds based on academic achievement, successful performance on the LSAT, and other life experiences. If you are awarded a scholarship, we will notify you promptly after you have been admitted to the College of Law.

Comfort Scholarship
One of our most prestigious awards at OU Law is the Comfort Scholarship. Through a generous endowment from William T. Comfort, Jr. and James T. Comfort, the College of Law awards merit-based scholarships to incoming students with exemplary academic qualifications and LSAT scores. The Comfort Scholarship is awarded without regard to financial need. It continues for the second and third years of law school, provided the student is in good standing and maintains a minimum grade point of B (8.0 on 12.0 scale). In addition, typically the top 10 students in each of the second and third year classes are considered for Comfort "Top Ten" Scholarships. Comfort Scholars are considered to be the most outstanding group of incoming students.

Chesapeake Energy Corporation Scholarship
The Chesapeake Energy Corporation Scholarship is awarded to incoming students with a demonstrated interest in the oil and gas industry. Chesapeake Energy Corporation is headquartered in Oklahoma City and the second-largest producer of natural gas in the United States. The scholarship is designed to help develop highly-trained lawyers in the energy field. First, Second, and Third Year Scholarships
In addition to incoming student scholarships, the College of Law administers a scholarship and awards program based on a scholarship application. This application is given to all students after classes begin in the Fall. By completing the application, students are considered for all merit, interest, and need-based scholarships for which they qualify. Scholarships range from several hundred to several thousand dollars. One scholarship even includes a custom-made suit! The Scholarship Committee makes decisions in September and March of each year.
Financial Aid Information
Students should apply for financial aid annually using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA becomes available on January 1 for the following fall/spring semesters. The recommended FAFSA filing date for fall is March 1. Parental information is not required on the FAFSA for OU Law students. Refer to the links below for more information about financial aid for OU Law Students.
Outside Funding
Finally, we encourage students to seek outside funding resources. See http://www.law.tulane.edu/tlsadmissions/outside_scholarships_index.aspx (opens in new window) for a great collection of scholarship resources. Many of these scholarships are for second and third-year students, so we recommend that students put a reminder on their calendar for these events.
