Line 1.0.0- It mil 1)0 remembered by onr readers that
Line 1.0.1some six months ago the late Mr Lockwood
Line 1.0.2had the misfortune to miss his way in the
Line 1.0.3dark and walked over the Yarra-street wharf
Line 1.0.4into the bay, and was with the greatest diffi
Line 1.0.5culty rescued. It -will be recollected like
Line 1.0.6wise that a serious illness ensued, the result
Line 1.0.7of which was that he was incapacitated from
Line 1.0.8attending to his business, by reason of which
Line 1.0.9fact he omitted making arrangements in
Line 1.0.10reference to the insurance of his premises.
Line 1.0.11The fire which completely destroyed these,
Line 1.0.12and ruined the unfortunate man, is doubtless
Line 1.0.13fresh in the memory of our readers, as also
Line 1.0.14the terrible accident which culminated in
Line 1.0.15his death. A hearty and spontaneous effort
Line 1.0.16was made by the friends of the deceased
Line 1.0.17gentleman at the time to provide for the
Line 1.0.18•widow and orphans, and these efforts were
Line 1.0.19so far successful that they were enabled to
Line 1.0.20commence the construction of a new house.

Line 1.1.0It was considered advisable, however, that
Line 1.1.1the money handed over should be snj>ple
Line 1.1.2mented, and with that object the concert
Line 1.1.3which takes place this evening was projected.
Line 1.1.4Prom the array of talent, which is of the
Line 1.1.5best, and the motive in view, we have every
Line 1.1.6belief there will be a crowded house, for the
Line 1.1.7object is really a charitable one.

Line 1.2.0On Saturday the railway bridge over the
Line 1.2.1Barwon River was officially tested by Mr
Line 1.2.2Moline, the district engineer. The contrac
Line 1.2.3tors' engine " Colac," weighing thirty tons,
Line 1.2.4crossed the river and stopped on each bay of
Line 1.2.5the bridge, after which the engine ran across
Line 1.2.6at the rate of twenty-five miles an hour, and
Line 1.2.7the greatest deflection was only one-third of
Line 1.2.8an inch. The testing .was considered to be
Line 1.2.9one of the severest, and the result is in every
Line 1.2.10way satisfactory. Iu a few days it may
Line 1.2.11reasonably be expected that some definite
Line 1.2.12information as to this opening of the new
Line 1.2.13line as far as Winclielsea will be given, as
Line 1.2.14the rails are now laid up to the township. '

Line 1.3.0The old man Thomas Lilley, one of the
Line 1.3.1victims of the Wanrn Ponds outrage,
Line 1.3.2appeared to be slightly better yesterday,
Line 1.3.3although the medical staff at the . Hospital
Line 1.3.4cannot hold ont any hopes of his recovery.
Line 1.3.5This morning the prisoners Bartrop and
Line 1.3.6Todd are to be brought up at.the Police
Line 1.3.7Court, and will, iu all probability, be at once

remanded for a week.

Line 1.5.0We regret to learn that the exodus of
Line 1.5.1agriculturists from the colony still continues,
Line 1.5.2and that many of them are .wending their
Line 1.5.3way to Queensland- We hear that four who
Line 1.5.4have fine farms in the neighborhood of Cole
Line 1.5.5raine are selling out prior to going to the
Line 1.5.6youngest of the colonies, having first spied
Line 1.5.7out the land. They belong to a class that
Line 1.5.8can ill be spared, being men well-to-do, who
Line 1.5.9will take plenty of money with them. On

Line 1.6.0the other hand we hear of a man here and
Line 1.6.1there who, disliking the climate of Riverina,
Line 1.6.2s returning to our neighborhood.

Line 1.7.0The dispute between the directors and the
Line 1.7.1captain of the steamer Queenscliffe proceeds
Line 1.7.2apace. It is the principal topic of conversa
Line 1.7.3tion among the residents of the Borough of
Line 1.7.4Queenscliffe. We learn that several- of the
Line 1.7.5directors, and the fishermen who assisted to
Line 1.7.6turn the captain out of the steamboat, have
Line 1.7.7been served with writs for the recovery of
Line 1.7.8pretty large sums of money as compensation
Line 1.7.9for the injnry done him.

Line 1.8.0A laughable accident oecnrred at the Bar
Line 1.8.1won river on Saturday forenoon. Some
Line 1.8.2youths, members of the Roving Club, went
Line 1.8.3to'tlie sheds for the purpose of takhig a little
Line 1.8.4aquatic exercise. One of them got into a
Line 1.8.5light sculling boat, and pushed out to the
Line 1.8.6centre of the river, where he managed to get
Line 1.8.7upset. Fortunately for liim lie-was able to
Line 1.8.8swim, and before his companions, who were
Line 1.8.9convulsed- with laughter at the ludicrous
Line 1.8.10accident, could afford help, he had reached
Line 1.8.11the hank in safety. }

Line 1.9.0Oil Sunday next, the commencement of the
Line 1.9.1month dedicated by the Roman Catholics to
Line 1.9.2St. Mary, there willbe a procession at the

Line 1.10.0church in Yarra-street. On that occasion
Line 1.10.1the children of Mary and members of St.
Line 1.10.2Mary's Total Abstinence Society will form

Line 1.11.0The hills about Higlitou are just now

Line 1.12.0The long-expected memorial-window for
Line 1.12.1St. Paul's Church and for which the late
Line 1.12.2Mr George Synnot provided in his will, has

Line 1.12.4Lomond," which anchored in Hobson's Bay.

Line 3.0.0An accident happened yesterday.afternoon

AVindow smashing seems to he a favorite

amusement with the larrikiu element. On

Line 3.4.0Friday night a large pane of glass in a now
Line 3.4.1building at the corner of Yarra and Myers
Line 3.4.2streets was broken.- The windows;of many
Line 3.4.3empty honses in various parts of Geelong,

show signs of having met with rough,treaty
