Through most of my life, I've been seeking answers to the three questions posed by Harry Hay at the dawn of lgbt liberation seven decades ago. Who are we?

In the books and articles I've written over the years, I've shared the insights I’ve gained on my search for answers. I hope to use this website as well to offer samples of my work, past and present, and some of the interesting materials I've collected along the way. Here you'll find information about my publications, along with works-in-progress and tidbits from my unpublished writings and archives. There's background on the Native American two-spirit tradition, the primary subject of my research, and its parallels around the world, along with samplings of queer mythology, culture, politics, and history. And there’s plenty of multimedia content, too, including music, video, and podcasts! FLASH! FLASH! STREAMING NOW! "Give 'Em Hell, Harry: The Man Who Kept Harvey Milk's Dream Alive," a seven-part podcast based on my interviews with Harry Britt and produced by Devlyn Camp and Queer Serial is available now wherever you listen to podcasts. Harry is the most important queer leader you've never head. Appointed to take Harvey's place after his assassination, he had a remarkable career, from a shy queer boy from Port Arthur, Texas to one of the most effective progressive leaders of his day. Rich with the sounds, voices, events, and drama of San Francisco in the 1970s and 1980s, I hope "Give 'Em Hell, Harry" will inspire a new generation of queer activists. Check out my page on Harry and start streaming now! PLUS! Two of my books are back in print. A new edition of Boy-Wives and Female Husbands: Studies in African Homosexualities is available from SUNY Press in. And Jesus and the Shamanic Tradition of Same-Sex Love is available at Amazon and at Smashwords. I will be updating this site on a regular basis, so come back soon!
