CARB is the primary source for air quality data collected throughout California, and ensures the quality of this data. CARB also sets ambient air quality standards for the state and designs and implements air pollution models. In addition, CARB complies the state's emissions inventory and performs air quality and emissions inventory special studies. CARB uses this information to evaluate air quality and guide efforts to reduce emissions in each of the 35 local air districts.
