There is only one copy of Faithful Rigmor and Her
Grandmother that survives (known to me). It is in
an envelope in Cambridge University Library.
Several years ago, I inquired as to how much it
would cost to copy the volume and was horrified
by a price tag of over five hundred pounds. At that
point Stephen Lees very kindly read the book on
my behalf and communicated its contents.
Recently I was back at the UL for another project
and I took twenty minutes to order up the novel
and photograph it with my mobile. I’m not very
good at these things and the reader may curse
me. In desperation, it is possible to read every
word (with apologies to some slightly blurred
pages) of this book and with regrets for the one
page I somehow missed, 51. Next time I’m in
Cambridge I’ll add the missing page and replace
some of the blurred ones, but for now something
is better than nothing. Honour and glory to
Padstow’s most famous daughter!
