We examined chlL ~rxC) gene evolution using several approaches. Sequences from the chloroplast genome of the fern Polystichum acrostichoides and from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. 7002 were determined and found to be highly conserved. A complete physical map of the fern chloroplast genome and partial maps of other vascular plant taxa show that chlL is located primarily in the small single copy region as in Marchantia polymorpha.

In this study we investigated cultural differences and correlates of optimism and pessimism in Kuwaiti (n = 600) and Omani (n = 600) undergraduates. All respondents completed the ). The ASOP displayed good internal consistency, a meaningful factorial structure and interpretable factors in both countries. It was found that optimism correlated negatively with the above scales, while the correlations of pessimism were positive, indicating the convergent validity of the ASOP. The Kuwaiti mean score on optimism was significantly lower than the mean of their Omani counterparts, and no significant cultural differences were found for pessimism.

Management theory and practice are facing unprecedented challenges. The lack of sustainability, the increasing inequity and the continuous decline in societal trust pose a threat to 'business as usual . Capitalism is at a crossroad and scholars, practitioners and policy makers are called to rethink business strategy in light of major external changes ). In the following we review an alternative view of human beings that is based on a renewed Darwinian theory developed by . We label this alternative view 'humanistic' and draw distinctions to current 'economistic' conceptions. We then develop the consequences that this humanistic view has for business organizations, examining business strategy, governance structures, leadership forms, and organizational culture. Afterwards we outline the influences of humanism on management in the past and the present, and suggest options for humanism to shape the future of management. In this manner we will contribute to the discussion of alternative management paradigms that help solve the current crises. The purpose of the research was to analyze the entrepreneurial interest of students in information technology related courses. A literature review was performed, from which four hypotheses were announced, affirming that the student interest in entrepreneurial activity is influenced by (1) the perceived vocation of the area, (2) the ownership of a company, (3) the perceived social support from friends and family, and (4) the entrepreneurial skills mastery. A field study was developed, with data collected from the 171 students of higher education institutions from Fortaleza. The data were analyzed by using statistical techniques of descriptive analysis, analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis. It was found that: (1) students, in general, have a moderate predisposition to engage in entrepreneurial activities; (2) the entrepreneurial interest is influenced by the perceived entrepreneurial vocation of the area, the social support, and the perceived strategic entrepreneurial skills mastery.

This paper proposes a hybrid learning method to speed up the classification procedure of Support Vector Machines (SVM). Comparing most algorithms trying to decrease the support vectors in an SVM classifier, we focus on reducing the data points that need SVM for classification, and reduce the number of support vectors for each SVM classification. The system uses a Nearest Neighbor Classifier (NNC) to treat data points attentively. In the training phase, the NNC selects data near partial decision boundary, and then trains sub SVM for each Voronoi pair. For classification, most non-boundary data points are classified by NNC directly, while remaining boundary data points are passed to a corresponding local expert SVM. We also propose a data selection method for training reliable expert SVM. Experimental results on several generated and public machine learning data sets show that the proposed method significantly accelerates the testing speed.
'Placing the Individual and the Divine in Time and Space' in Time and Space at Issue in Ancient Egypt (eds.) Chantrain, G and Winand, J, Lingua Aegyptia - Studia Monographica 19, Hamburg: Widmaier, 2018
This study examines the use of deictic verbs of motion in relation to divine interaction, as expressed within post-Amarna period, New Kingdom sources. The methodologies and axioms of the field of deixis have increasingly been utilised within Egyptology as a means for understanding the positioning of the individual in time and space, however, this mapping has infrequently been employed in relation to divine-human interactions. Following an overview of deictic theory and a summary of its Egyptological application, this paper assesses the use of ‘come’ (iy/iw) and ‘go’ (Sm) as deictic verbs of translational motion in relation to the divine. This phenomenological approach is also applied to rotational motion verbs which describe divine interaction and attention through the emphasis on the human back. The examples are discussed from the theoretical perspective of pragmatics and cognitive linguistics. The role of presupposition is explored as a way of expressing understanding of divine interaction. The related idiom of winds and breezes is also explored as a means of positioning the divine in the field of view of the speaker.
