Schriften aus der Fakultät Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften der Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, 2013
This collection of essays originated in the Summer School 'Metaphysics or Modernity?', which was held at the University of Bamberg in August 2012. Designed as a forum for graduate students in philosophy, the Summer School brought together a highly diverse group of young academics who-more often than not-came from utterly different schools and traditions of thought. This pluralism is reflected in the pages of this book. While the volume is roughly divided into two halves-one with a more historical focus, the other with a more systematic focus-the reader will find an unusually wide array of topics and questions treated here. Since the aforementioned pluralism was one of the main strengths of our Summer School, this is something in which we take much pride. Neither this collection of essays nor the Summer School itself would have been possible without the generous support of both the Philosophy Department at the University of Bamberg and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In particular, Christian Schäfer and Christian Illies have spent numerous hours discussing our project with us, navigating administrative difficulties and giving valuable advice or encouragement. To them-as well as to all our colleagues who were willing to publish their work in this collection-we owe heartfelt thanks.
Metaphysics: Problems, Paradoxes, and Puzzles, Solved?, 2016
This entry considers the philosophical subject called metaphysics. There have been many conceptions of metaphysics, and metaphysics has faced severe criticism throughout the history of philosophy and continues to do so. Besides discussing some major trends in analytic metaphysicsunderstood as 'metaphysics done by analytic philosophers'-we consider some of the criticisms and possible responses.

The present collection assembles new work in the flourishing field of the metaphysics of physics, running the full gamut from the philosophical consideration of the foundations of contemporary physics to a scientifically informed analysis of traditional metaphysical concerns. Our desire to understand the innermost foldings of the world we inhabit has naturally brought physics and philosophy in close contact over the millennia; in fact, both disciplines have emerged out of the same systematic attempts to satiate this human zeal. Despite occasional dissonance and miscommunication, the nexus between the two fields was mutually beneficial for the most part, and forged the foundation of modern science in the first scientific revolution of the 16 th and 17 th centuries and was instrumental in initiating the second scientific revolution during the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries. The resulting unprecedented success of physics in predictive accuracy, explanatory abundance, and range of technological applications has led to a more asymmetric relation between physics and philosophy: as the former shines in its well-deserved acclaim as the kingpin of science, the latter struggles to remain relevant as foundational and philosophical questions are increasingly seen as arcane, inscrutable, and unnecessary. Lest the reader mistakes us to condone philosophy's supposed plight, we affirm that instead of waning in significance, foundational and philosophical work has acquired new urgency in the light of fundamental physics' continued struggle to even just formulate a complete quantum theory of gravity, let alone a comprehensive and unified foundation for all of contemporary physics.
Physical phenomena are abstracted or modelled in mathematics, where numbers play greater role. This note explores vis-a-vis informally on nature, numbers and understanding them through yoga meditation or in simple terms reflecting on these issues. These overlap on metaphysics and epistemology as a student of science. This paper is written as a note and is informal. The generalized principle of golden sections by Stakhov appear to me as a metaphysical quest, where this paper indicates a possibility of convergence of symmetry and asymmetry with underlying natural principles, particularly as balancing or at equilibrium.
This article offers evidence of a meta-narrative about all human behavior, the human ways of being. These include scientific, religious, and philosophical behavior, as well as athletic and artistic behavior. The presentation is a series of “conversation starters” intended for students of diverse specialties. The crucial claim is that human beings are constrained both by the physical limitation of being only NOW (the time you are reading this), and by biological limitations on possible movements and thoughts. The name of the all-encompassing narrative is MICROLECTICS, which commences with a physics-oriented ontology, and then in that context with a classification of human behavior. With regard to describing, discussing, explaining, teaching, or predicting things, there are two kinds of human being. The super-naturalists need super-natural things such as god and soul for describing, discussing, explaining, teaching and predicting things. The naturalists never need to mention super-natural things. To them, the supernatural is no thing. We are ephemeral pulses of life, all we have is now, each other, and our ways of being. The meaning of life is its unique awesome interesting variety of opportunities available so briefly for our experience. The full life is that which takes whatever opportunities that contingencies make available to treasure our bonds with each other, and these opportunities. Key Words of Microlectics behavior, bond, core, encounter, expression, field, human being, key, mental model, microlect, pulsation, pulse, resonance, resonant-community, spacetime, structure, thing
Low yield and increased use of chemical fertilizers are major problems for chilli growers in Chitwan, Nepal. An experiment to determine the effect of pinching on the vegetative and reproductive attributes of Chilli was conducted in the farmer's field to study its effect on height, branching system, and yield attributes of the plant. Seven treatments in total that were pinching at 15th, 30th, 45th, 15th & 30th,15th & 45th, 30th & 45th DAT and control with three replications were laid out in randomized complete block design in an area of 5.4 m2. A significant reduction in height by 32.70% was observed in the double-pinched plot than in the un-pinched plot. Similarly, an increase in the number of primary, secondary, and tertiary flowering branches was recorded in pinched plants as compared to controlled conditions. Pinching after the 15th & 45th DAT recorded a greater number of days to 1st flowering and 50% flowering while double pinching takes a maximum of days to flower followed by single pinching. Notably, double pinching at 15th & 30th DAT resulted in a substantial increase in the number of fruits per plant by 77.56%, average fruit weight by 27.57%, fruit length by 18.04%, and overall fruit yield by 118.65% compared to the control. While single pinching at the 15th, 30th, and 45th DAT yielded comparable results, the control treatment displayed inferior outcomes. These findings underscore the efficacy of pinching at 15th & 30th DAT as a beneficial approach to enhance the growth and yield traits of Chilli plants in Chitwan, Nepal.
