CFP_Supernatural 2019.pdf

The goal is to publish original research exploring possible connections, contrasts, or overlaps of different forms of religious experience with ritual, magic, and witchcraft. We are interested in analyzing the relationships between witchcraft-related beliefs -traditions, accusations, prosecutions, intellectual developments -and magic or religious rituals. Furthermore, we aim to explore the role of this dual relationship in the context of or in relation to religious experiences, a broad category which includes devotion, orthodoxy, religious feelings and emotions, etc. The timeframe is flexible, starting with the Late Antiquity and going to the Renaissance with no geographical limitations. The volume aims to redefine the role of magic, witchcraft, ritual, and religious experience by mirroring -or contributing to the creation of -specific approaches to the supernatural. A secondary goal is to measure the importance of these approaches within the civilizations they were part of: specific civilizations of the supernatural or multifaceted dimensions blending together social, individual, psychological, political, and intellectual elements and giving shape to historically-determined forms of beliefs, behaviours, practices, institutions, and mythologies.
