A View on Immortality Vis. Racism

Explores the Dark Emperor concept as an idea simultaneously of race or racism and immortality.

A VIEW ON IMMORTALITY VIS. ‘RACISM’ I have been thinking about immortality vis. The Dark Emperor archetype from the Star Wars films. What does it say about Racism? But I wish to frame the question in the context of the pursuit of immortality. The dark emperor is portrayed as someone who has lived to 900 years old or something like that. That doesn’t seem like such a bad thing. But he’s such an evil person, and black people in the media are sometimes portrayed as criminals. In some ways the Dark Emperor archetypes expresses something about the desire to live, and also the racism of the criminal archetype. I came up with the following points on the subject: *Perhaps the Dark Emperor isn’t black (he’s very white, after all). What does that say about immortality? Is he the only immortal archetype? Must I become the Dark Emperor to be immortal? *Of course, there might be a lot of different archetypes for immortality. There might be black archetypes and white archetypes. These are not necessarily racist. After all, each one of them can achieve great things, when it is possible that it can materialize at all. *Maybe (being white) I can become a dark emperor archetype, minus the magic. Maybe if I didn’t know magic, then I wouldn’t be evil. If I’m not evil, then what’s so bad about being a Dark Emperor? *Then there is the view that, although I’m not black, it’s divine to be black. Perhaps black people tend to be more athletic, or are more romantically attractive. Do I have to be an exception to the rule? *Maybe immortality is more like following commonsense advice, like eat your vegetables, and don’t do anything crazy. That’s not such a bad view. *Now there is another possibility: that black people are portrayed as being more virtuous at the same time that they are portrayed as being more criminalistic. For example, black people are more frequently pictured being served vegetables, and living in highly religious families. What does this say about the image of white people? *So, fundamentally, the Dark Emperor is a picture of an evil white guy. But what’s evil about seeking immortality? And why are the black actors being served vegetables? *Something about this is just about consciousness and acting. People enjoy complexity, and they enjoy problems. But I think I’m right that black people are perceived as being more immortal than whites, even if it apparently contradicts the facts. *So, if we are being realistic, we need to face the facts: black actors do not become immortal if they eat their vegetables (although they should). The Dark Emperor should be praised for seeking immortality and eating his vegetables. Perhaps it is a little bit arbitrary that he knows evil magic. But magic is what we think we need to achieve immortality. *I guess it comes down to pure psychology, if such a thing exists. Nathan Coppedge 12/01/2014, p.
