W. Douglas Gubler
Doug Gubler earned his B.S. in botany and zoology from Southern Utah State University. He earned his M.S. degree in plant pathology at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Gubler  completed his Ph.D. program at the   University of California-Davis. In 1983, Dr. Gubler joined the department of Plant Pathology at UC-Davis as an assistant cooperative extension plant pathologist and moved through the ranks to his current position of professor. His research emphasis is on diseases of fruit crops. In 1998, Douglas Gubler was the recipient of  the APS Excellence in Extension Award.
   

Matt Rademacher and Steve Vasquez  are graduate student assistants with the Department of Plant Pathology at UC-Davis.

Carla Thomas
Carla Thomas is an Agronomist and Plant Pathologist for Western Farm Service, Inc. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture and her Master’s degree in Botany and Plant Pathology from Michigan State University. She worked at the University of California, Davis, Department of Plant Pathology for ten years with Dr. Doug Gubler. She worked with Western Farm Service, several universities and independent consultants to develop the world’s largest disease risk assessment network for agriculture in the world.

Carla is currently working with Western Farm Service to develop and implement the use of their weather system of 450 stations for making crop management decisions. The weather system is used for disease, insect, weed, fertility and crop growth stage information for a wide range of field and horticultural crops. She also is part of a team of WFS agronomists who are integrating the use of remote sensing and variable rate technology into commercial farming operations.
