The Braves’ departure from Boston was propitious for BU
The Braves’ 1953 departure from Boston broke fans’ hearts, but was propitious for BU
Boston University’s original Nickerson Field was located in Weston, Mass., until the Commonwealth of Massachusetts decided to build Route 128 straight through it. Two years after the highway was built in 1951, the Boston Braves left for Milwaukee (the franchise settled in Atlanta in 1966), and BU snatched the field on what is now Harry Agganis Way.
