Major: Computer and Information Science
Ever since Kyrillos “Chris” Antoon was young, he had an interest in computers and video games.
In high school, he tried programming and hasn’t looked back.
“Everything just clicked and I found myself to be good at it, so I decided to take it all the way and make it a career,” he said.
Antoon selected College of DuPage, which was affordable, close to home and has a 3+1 agreement with Lewis University that allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science without leaving COD’s campus.
STEM Student Success Scholarship
One of his biggest achievements was earning the STEM Student Scholarship, funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The award included tuition, fees and support systems specifically for recipients.
“I honestly could not tell you how much the STEM Scholarship and the coaches helped me out,” he said. “I would literally not be where I am if it wasn’t for them, and I am not even talking about the financial support. The STEM staff people are very knowledgeable. They helped me out with my 3+1 application, graduation application and much more.”
Antoon earned his Associate in Applied Science degree in Application and Technical Support Specialist and graduated with honors. He then transferred to Lewis University and completed his bachelor’s degree. Currently he works for WEBIT Services, and his ultimate goal is to become a senior software developer.
“My dream is to open my own company and develop video games because that is what I am truly passionate about.”
Happy with his choice of COD, Antoon encourages other students to do their best.
“Don’t assume things—if you are not sure about something, ask, whether it is for advice on financial aid, classes you might pick and even the smallest thing like when to apply to other universities or programs.”
