Long-Term Care Administration Program

The Long-Term Care Administration certificate program at College of DuPage prepares students for administrative responsibilities in a variety of long-term care settings: including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health services and other organizations serving the elderly and disabled.

The program is only offered in an online format. All Long-Term Care Administration courses are delivered through Blackboard. Weekly course participation and completion of course assignments is required.

Students can enter the program during any semester; program length is based on each student's course load.

The certificate program is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as meeting the education criteria for the Illinois Nursing Home Administrators Licensure Examination. This program prepares you for both state and federal licensure exams. Selected courses may satisfy continuing education requirements for nursing home administrators, social workers and counselors.

Long-Term Care Administration

The Long-Term Care Administration certificate program prepares students for a variety of administrative and management positions in agencies providing long-term health care.

The certificate is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as meeting the educational requirements of the state of Illinois Nursing Home Administrators Licensing and Disciplinary Act.

The coursework also meets the requirements of Section 1310.40 “Approved Nursing Home Administration Courses.” Upon successful completion of the certificate, students are eligible to take the Illinois Nursing Home Administrators Licensure Exam.

Long-Term Care Administration Program graduates will:

  • Identify the physical, psychological, sociological and financial issues facing older adults.
  • Describe the dying and bereavement process experienced by the older adult and his/her family.
  • Introduce management, marketing, and planning knowledge and skills required in long-term care administration
  • Explain staffing, scheduling, and recruitment responsibilities in long-term care administration
  • Identify budgetary principles applicable to long-term care administration.
  • Differentiate funding systems and resources such as Medicare Prospective Payment System and Illinois Medicaid programs.
