NOT TO BE MISSED: RECOGNIZING 50 YEARS OF “NIMMER ON COPYRIGHT” THIS MONDAY, MAY 6, 2013
Issue No. 504 - May 2, 2013

The U.S. Copyright Office will present a Copyright Matters program on May 6, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress (Thomas Jefferson Building). In recognition of the 50th anniversary of “Nimmer on Copyright,” a panel of experts will offer insights and observations about the treatise, including its effect on both the theory and practice of copyright law.

The program will feature David Nimmer of UCLA School of Law and the law firm Irell and Manella LLP. Mr. Nimmer will discuss his own role with respect to the treatise, as well as that of his father, the late Melville Nimmer. Scholars Robert Brauneis of The George Washington University Law School and Peter Menell of Berkeley School of Law will also speak, as will Jon Baumgarten, former general counsel in the Copyright Office, and Shira Perlmutter, Chief Policy Officer at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Karyn A. Temple, Associate Register of Copyrights for Policy and International Affairs, will moderate the discussion.

The program will be hosted by Maria A. Pallante, Register of Copyrights, with Joseph Salvo, president of the Copyright Society of the USA, providing opening remarks. The program is free and open to the public, and it will be recorded and made available on the Copyright Office website at a later date. (Read more.)
