They don’t like my techniques

QI babysit for my grandchildren when their parents go out. The four-year-old always wakes and cries, and usually wants her mum. I struggle to calm her down, but one thing that works is telling her a story. Her parents have asked me to stop as she is demanding stories from them when she wakes. I don’t know how to calm her any other way.
