There’s an art to making a flower border in which select plants peak in unison, forming a dynamic ensemble composed of different hues, textures and forms. “I like to listen to classical music when planting a border – both are complex, multi-layered compositions with intense crescendos of colour and rhythm,” says landscape designer Alasdair Cameron. “I use individual plants like the instruments of an orchestra, to repeat a consistent theme throughout or add highlights.”
