The 21st century has already toppled plenty of taboo topics. Women have roared and sought retribution on many fronts. Yet there is still one to be tackled out loud. It’s not periods. Happily, we have swapped red ink for blue and euphemisms like “that time of the month” for menstruation.
The M word – menopause – is also finally being spoken about openly not only by women, but entrepreneurs and investors pouring millions into apps, wearables, supplements, beauty products, sexual wellness tools and telehealth startups designed to support our second act.
Menopause is being rebranded as natural, healthy and lucrative as 1.1 billion women globally are expected to be postmenopausal by 2025, creating a $600 billion market opportunity, according to data from US-based early stage investing fund Female Founders Fund.
