e enjoyed previous Sarah Lotz books like , so we were surprised that her latest like a simple love story. However, Amazon has (out now, Harper (out now, Angry Robot). Its hero is a mixed-species fugitive who ends up working for a crime boss. When the mobster sets up the circus he works at for a fall, Jez decides to bring him down. Aimed at 9-12 year olds, Jamar J Perry’s (out now, Bloomsbury) is inspired by West African and Igbo history/mythology, and sees the titular kid transported to the kingdom of Chidani via a magical book. There’s a follow-up to Sylvain Neuvel’s alternate history of the space race, ; we called that “seriously clever fun.” (out now, Penguin) continues the story in 1968. And there’s a return to the world of , Alexander Dan Vilhjálmsson’s alternative Iceland urban fantasy. Our reviewer dug that, comparing it to China Miéville’s . (7 April, Gollancz) follows a recovering addict who moves to a fishing village, and a professor of sorcery recruited to excavate an ancient power. Finally, Brandon Sanderson has added a novella to his Storm-light Archive series. (31 March, Titan) concerns mysterious islands, buried cities, sea monsters and secret gods.
