As a luge athlete, Ashley Walden came to the Adirondacks chasing an Olympic dream. Now she’s all-in on another goal: Pulling off the biggest sporting event Lake Placid and the North Country have seen since the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Walden serves as the executive director of the Adirondack Sports Council (ADKSC), the organizing committee for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, set for January 12-22. While smaller in stature than the Winter Olympics, it is bigger in scope: the expected 2,500 collegiate-athletes and delegates
