THE words “Enjoy Enjaami, Vaango vaango onnaagi, Ammayi ambaari Indha indha mummaari” form the chorus of a popular Tamil song that took the world by storm.

The 2021 song, sung by Dhee and rapper Arivu, similar in popularity to our own Jerusalema, has got everyone dancing and has already garnered some 80 million YouTube views and counting.

It is a poignant and celebratory song that beautifully parallels our own South African indentured story, and is significantly symbolic in commemorating the contributions of the indentured workers to the building of our nation of South Africa. If anything, Enjoy Enjaami is certainly worth another YouTube view with the subtitles turned on if you don’t understand Tamil.
