About this audiobook
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Despite Ludlow’s tranquility, an undercurrent of danger exists here. Those trucks on the road outside the Creed’s beautiful old home travel by just a little too quickly, for one thing…as is evidenced by the makeshift graveyard in the nearby woods where generations of children have buried their beloved pets. Then there are the warnings to Louis both real and from the depths of his nightmares that he should not venture beyond the borders of this little graveyard where another burial ground lures with seductive promises and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there—one more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful. As Louis is about to discover for himself sometimes, dead is better…

Readers find this title to be a gripping and well-written story that explores themes of horror, mystery, and immortality. The narration by Michael C. Hall is highly praised for its captivating and chilling delivery. While some readers find the book slow at times or feel that there is too much build-up, the overall consensus is that it is a must-read for fans of Stephen King. The book is described as terrifying, heart-wrenching, and a parent's worst fear, making it a perfect choice for those who enjoy a good scare.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So this was my first SK novel (among many more to come), and as much as I liked it, I was left a bit disappointed by the fact that SK says himself in the intro that this is his most messed up work yet...and tbh, the last 15% is the most frightening, while the rest to be a bit slow at times. Maybe I’m just a scrub, but I was hoping for more with that kind of hype coming from the author himself. Now, having seen the film first, this book is soooooooooooooooo much better than the 1989 film adaptation.
I chose this book due to the reboot coming out early this april, but even before a final trailer is released, there is already W A Y too many things that don’t connect with the book (by a lonnnng shot folks). so with that in mind, I would recommend this one right now. Also, narrator does amazing with voices1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5King’s long stories are full of details of plot and characters. This, in my opinion, is one of his best. A scary tale that will fill you with unease and keep you turning pages as quickly as you can.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic story. Amazingly sad. King has a way of making you fall in love with the characters all the while feeling terrible for them and their impending doom.
Michael C Hall’s narration is fantastic. I couldn’t have thought of a better person for this audio book1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5One of Stephen kings classics. Highly recommended. Michael C. Hall Is great
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I first read this book when I was 13 and I remember it being one of the few books I've ever found truly unsettling. There's not much truly "scary" in this book in the traditional horror sense, but the sense that something awful can happen, out of nowhere, to upend a family so quickly frightened me far more than the ghosts of The Shining ever did. Upon reread mumble years later, I find that the creeping dread that leads to the central tragedy is still there but I was more struck by the numbness inherent in Louis' grief as an adult. Ultimately, this one not only holds up but is richer with more experience, something I can't say for many books I loved as a teen. If you think you know Stephen King's writing and haven't read this one, I would say you don't know how good his work can be...yet.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Where do I start with this book?
I’m hiding this just in case this could be construed as spoiler-y.
I liked it, it wasn’t my favorite book, or even my favorite King, but it was good! I think the thing that made this a 3.5 (rounded up) was that parts of it were sooooooooo slow.
I’ve seen both the movies, and I kind of expected more to be happening, but all the scary stuff was right at the end. I was just waiting for it to happen. When it did, I was on the edge of my seat, but it just took too long to get there. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the better King endings IMO. I was terrified to read it for over 25 years and now that I have I'm so glad it did.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good read just wish he would let a medical professional proofread
There’s a couple lines that were hard to read. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow edge of my seat until the end. A mix of sadness and horror that felt me wanting more.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved every second of this book. It is so frightening, a parent’s worse fear: their kids coming into harm, so it makes this book all the better, with the gruesome details of the accident ad everything. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good scare.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A classic novel that is definitely worth the read!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you’re a parent this book is likely better. I thought there was too much build up to get to the point of it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5That was crazy I had no idea it was that much different than the movie
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read this book for the first time when I was thirteen. It launched my love of reading. I have reread it several times thru the years and figured this time I would do the audio. MICHAEL C did an amazing job. Still get goosebumps when reading it, and I still love it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome book it keeps you reading. Always wanted to this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Masterpiece

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of my favorite King books; terrifying, heart wrenching and pure entertainment. Listen, read and share!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A very interesting book, although it felt quite slow at times.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My first novel by Stephen King, and I immediately understand why he’s so popular. Easy to get through. Had be horrified to continue, but eager to turn the page.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"O death your hands are clammy...I feel them on my knees...you came and took my mother...won't you come back after me?"
Page 419 - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a great book. It has a darker, slightly morbid feel to it but all in all the book had great content and captures the reader in the story.
