I was introduced to poetry in school. At first it seemed to be in one ear then out the other, as we were covering the Haiku style, my brain couldn’t seem to grasp it at all. Lucky for me that’s not all that was covered. We learned all about Sonnet’s, Ballad’s....ect. That my friends, is where my story truly begins. You see, something started to click away in my brain. I enjoyed piecing together words in this way. It was exciting and new. I could really put my teenage emotions on paper this way. Anyone who knows a teen or has been one will tell you those years feel completely crazy. Anyhow, I wrote in my free time that year. However, that summer was going to be one of the most memorable. That summer I went to visit family in Washington. No not DC, and yes I get asked that a lot. I went up to visit and babysit my cousins for the summer. Can I just say BEST SUMMER EVER! I had done so many different things, but the coolest by far in my mind back then was my Aunt Deb. She was getting ready to take me for a bike ride and she found out how much I enjoyed poetry. I am not entirely sure how much she ever really messed with poetry before....but while eating some snacks we hashed what I thought was the best poem I had ever written before. Not only did I feel so accomplished, but it was extra special because my Aunt Deb helped co-write it amongst her busy day. Today it still holds a very special place in my heart. Thanks Aunt Deb for your support before we even knew were it would take me. Today I write on a lot of different topics. Most of my poetry comes from a very personal place. I hope everyone can take something from it and truly enjoy it.view less
