CHAPTER 1
On the Basis of Language
If one writer in his/her mother tongue knows that he is under no pressure to think for the emotion- language co-ordination. He knows what kind of mass will read it-and they are no alien. He needs not to worry much about the search for proper diction. He just need to use the available local diction to use in his writing after that it is upto him weather he needs to experiment on that or not. But the case is not the same when one uses a different language other than his own there his emotions need to go through a transition passage. The writer needs to search for a proper diction-equivalent in that foreign language for the expression of his own emotion. Yeats has also reminded about this things
'No man can think or write with music and vigour expect in his mother tongue'
But this has not dissuaded writers of Indian subcontinent to write in English. Raja Rao himself declare that the time will decide the quality of the type of English in which the Indians write. Kamala Das in her 'An Introduction', passed her judgements on this
'It is half English half Indian funny perhaps, but it is honest'
But all these, in a sense more or less involved in his writers
