Hoot
As nightfall drew closer, Emma and Zach unloaded the rest of the gear from the Jeep and locked up the food. After another drink they crawled into the tent once again and fell asleep in each other’s arms. This camping trip elevated their six month relationship to a higher level of commitment. Spending the night with Zach in the heart of the Colorado wilderness was proof of Emma’s increasing faith in their bond. They both slept with a contentment they hadn’t felt before. They held each other inside co-joined sleeping bags, their body heat warding off the increasingly chilly mountain air.
A few hours later, in the middle of the night, Emma and Zach were suddenly wakened by an immensely disturbing sound coming from the woods. It was similar to that of a dog howling in pain; they could hear the stress in the animal’s cries. The noise seemed distant, but it still frightened Emma.
What the hell is that?
she whispered, pulling herself closer to Zach.
I have no idea, but it sounds horrific.
Great, now you're scaring me. Maybe it’s a bear is attacking a coyote or something.
