    Although I've made my living as a teacher and guidance counselor, I've always had a passion for writing. Thomas Bouregy and Company published my novel, Return to Paradise Cove, under their Avalon imprint. Two of my one-act plays, A Different Kind of Death, and The Flirt, have been produced, respectively, in New Haven, Connecticut, and Sacramento, California. Short stories of mine have appeared in commercial magazines such as Action and True Romance as well as in certain literary and professional ones.

      The small coastal community of Hough's Neck lies ten miles southeast of Boston. Unfortunately, ever since 1664 when Atherton Hough first took possession of the one-mile square peninsula, its pristine grandeur and beauty have been in decline. But, in recent years, thanks to the demands of a group of citizen activists, concerned about the environment, elected officials have taken steps--albeit tiny ones--to clean up the sewerage that has tainted its waters, cart away the debris that has sullied its beaches, and curb the outbreaks of red tide that have ravaged its clam flats.

      Nowadays most of the cottages have been winterized for year round living and few Neckies, as the residents are wont to call themselves, make their living from the sea. Most commute daily to jobs in the state capital. Once proudly heralded as the flounder capital of the east coast, the town
