INTRODUCTION
This work is about hijabs and the different ways you can wear them in ways that are comfortable, stylish and above all modest, according to the occasion. If you’re one of those who felt the need to be stylish and in vogue, yet at the same time adhere to your deen by wearing the hijab, join the crowd. There’re many sisters out there who feel exactly the same way. Or maybe you’re just one of those who needs to be trendy without breaking the bank - well this book is also for you!
That said; let me say from the outset that there is a big difference between a hijab and a head-dressing. Most cultures, in ancient and present times, prescribed to the idea of their women folk putting on a head-dress of some sort. Indeed the explosion of the different ways in which the head can be covered has seen tremendous changes of late. And the trend continues. The salient differences between the Islamic hijab and the other head dresses that may be worn by other cultures are mainly two.
The first difference is that the hijab has been made obligatory to the Islamic woman. The other difference has to do with the how and where (I am talking about existential situation rather than a spatial/geographical one!) the hijab is to be worn. This obligation is stated by Allah in the Holy Quran:
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest and to display of their adornments only that which is apparent and to draw their veils over their bosoms.....
(The Holy Qur’an Surat-ul-Nur 24:31)
This is something that needs to be adhered to as Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:
He who obeys Allah and His messenger and feareth Allah and keepeth duty such indeed are the victorious.
(The Holy Qur’an Surat-ul-Nur 24:52)
The second difference is the manner in which the hijab dress is worn - not all head dress does a hijab make! A hijab is a hijab only when it is worn in the manner prescribed in the Holy Qur’an. This prescription is two-fold and has its roots in the command that Allah gave to our holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
This book is written to give you knowledge on how you can wear and adhere to the regulations of the hijab as intended. It also goes on to give you ideas on how you can develop your own personal hijab style - your own personal hijab branding.
The first chapter of the book looks at the concept of the hijab as it is spelt out in The Holy Qur’an. In chapter two you get to have the low down on colours to give you the necessary information to be able to create your own effective look. Tools of the trade ranging from hijab fabrics to accessories are covered in chapter three. Not only do you get information on the variety of these items in the market, but you also get general information on fabrics available, their care as well concepts of hijab design elements and principles.
Next, in chapter four, we discuss personal hijab branding in detail. This chapter also gives information on planning your hijab wardrobe in a resourceful and practical way. Finally, various hijab designs are then presented in the last chapter, chapter five. This is where you get to pick different designs to suit the occasion. A detailed example then follows to illustrate the steps you take to selecting
