About this ebook
Over sixty years of experience has shown me we can truly live with less than we think. We don’t have to live a deprived life, but we also don’t need to live beyond our means or to be wasteful. I learned a great deal simply by living life and observing the lives of those around me. I began life in a simpler time and used some of the knowledge gained from that time to apply to life now.
It is hoped this book serves as a springboard to help others overcome their financial difficulties or manage money more wisely by applying some of the principles I have observed and learned. We live in a disposable society and retraining ourselves and learning to live with less might mean a more fruitful, rewarding, fulfilling live. Sometimes, less is more.

Frugal Times
Chapter 1
In the Beginning
When I was a child,
times were simpler.
My childhood was lived in a simpler time. Of course, I now enjoy all of the conveniences modern life offers. There are advantages of being Cajun and beginning life in those simpler times. Please, don’t assume for one moment I wish to return to the past; but I am thankful I grew up when I did. Knowledge I acquired walking through my early life allows me to look back and glean lessons which, if applied now, will help me and others walk through lean times today.
My life as a child was lived when there was NO air conditioning in many areas. Most people struggled to keep cool. Large stores did have air conditioning, and we enjoyed the shopping experience more than people today could possibly imagine. As children, we rose early to complete chores in the summer heat and spent the rest of the day sitting in the shade of a tree. I don’t want to give up air conditioning. It’s something I really enjoy and appreciate especially living in Louisiana because it’s hot and humid. Nevertheless, raising the temperature on the thermostat a couple of degrees will save money on the electric bill. Using a fan to circulate the cool air will, over time, encourage you to raise the thermostat another degree or two.
Getting up early, before the hottest part of the day, and completing household
