    Author Owen Jones, from Barry, South Wales, came to writing novels relatively recently, although he has been writing all his adult life. He has lived and worked in several countries and travelled in many, many more. He speaks, or has spoken, seven languages fluently and is currently learning Thai, since he lived in Thailand with his Thai wife of ten years. "It has never taken me long to learn a language," he says, "but Thai bears no relationship to any other language I have ever studied before." When asked about his style of writing, he said, "I'm a Celt, and we are Romantic. I believe in reincarnation and lots more besides in that vein. Those beliefs, like 'Do unto another...', and 'What goes round comes around', Fate and Karma are central to my life, so they are reflected in my work'. His first novel, 'Daddy's Hobby' from the series 'Behind The Smile: The Story of Lek, a Bar Girl in Pattaya' has become the classic novel on Pattaya bar girls and has been followed by six sequels. However, his largest collection is 'The Megan Series', twenty-three novelettes on the psychic development of a young teenage girl, the subtitle of which, 'A Spirit Guide, A Ghost Tiger and One Scary Mother!' sums them up nicely. After fifteen years of travelling, Owen and his wife are now back in his home town. He sums up his style as: "I write about what I see... or think I see... or dream... and in the end, it's all the same really..."

      1 Introduction

      This book is an aid for those people who want to write, are writing or have written a book. It is meant as a guide to writing and self-publishing. It is not meant to be a detailed guide on style, although, you may find a few tips on that too. Therefore, for the purpose of this book, we will assume that you are about to start writing, are in the process of writing or already have written an 'electronic manuscript', and want to know how to publish it yourself on your own at all the major publishers and distributors including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple iBookstore, Nook, Kindle, Lulu, Smashwords and XinXii in print and ebook formats.

      Electronic manuscript is an oxymoron, so we will use the word 'escript' throughout the rest of the book.

      Your escript may be in a state fit for printing or it may not, but this book will help you sort that out. Besides formatting your escript, It will also help you with choosing where to publish it, how to publish it, how to get a cover for it, how to promote it, where to sell it and everything else you need to do to get people buying your book.

      I have written and self-published 110+ of my own books and helped others with their publications. I now have a publishing company called 'Megan Publishing Services’, which can be found on line. Besides that, I have an escript that I finished writing a few days ago and will use my experience of getting that out into the world as my template for writing this book and I will test the process again by publishing this book..

      Therefore, by reading this book, you will be following the actual 'live' publication of a real book frozen in time. The book is part of my 'Megan Series' and is called 'Megan’s School Trip'. You can check that it is for sale on line whenever you wish. I will also share with you my 'Thirty-one Point Promotion Plan' at the end of the book, where you will be given the location from where you can download the list in MS Excel format.

      The world of creative writing is an ever expanding one as stories, novels and genres continue to evolve in a natural reaction to the changes in time. Having confirmed writing skills, however, is not enough to succeed at creative writing. Having passion for it is more important than having technical expertise. Love for creative writing, and not adherence to the grammatical elements, is what will ultimately guide you to doing things properly and successfully.

      First, here are a few general tips about writing; they will help you sell more books, by making them more interesting:

      Every author gives this advice, but they don't tell you how to fit the time into your busy day. That advice is 'Not to Stop Reading' – It’s impossible to become a writer, much less a creative writer, without being a reader first. Discovering your love for writing shouldn’t stop you from further devouring reading material but should instead encourage you to diversify your taste. If you want to become good at writing creatively, you need to broaden your horizons. Don’t limit yourself to reading one genre because this can only provide you with limited knowledge. If you want to improve, read everything that you can get your hands on.

      The next is 'Not to Stop Learning'. Having a broad general knowledge is essential if your stories are to sound authentic. It is a dead certainty, that whatever you write about will attract readers with a similar interest. So, sailors will read your book if it involves boats; people who have visited Thailand will read books which have Thailand as their backdrop and woe-betide the writer who gets too many details wrong. You will need to research your subjects like a student preparing for an exam, but this is good, because it adds to your pool of general knowledge.

      That last point is crucial when you are choosing what you want to write about. This is not usually a problem for the first-time author, but it can become one later in one's career. So, choose a topic that inflames you, and set it against a backdrop that you know something about or are prepared to learn about, because it interests you. I am sure that you have heard countless people tell you that to become a successful writer, you need to write about what you know about, and that is true.

      However, more important than that, you have to write about something that you love or something that you hate, just as long as it’s a topic that arouses passion in your heart! If you find something that interests you, but you don’t have adequate knowledge about it, then research it by all means! Research, research, and research, until you can safely say that you’re writing about something you know about, understand and love.

      Similar to building your general knowledge, and something that comes with it automatically, is building your vocabulary. Increase you mastery of words and constructions. Broadening your vocabulary and finding new ways of saying or describing things and situations can be another way for you to develop a story idea or set the tone or mood for a particular chapter. More important than that though, building your vocabulary will reduce the instances when you just can’t quite find the word to say what you want, although it is on the tip of your tongue.

      Always carry at least two pens with around with you. And a notebook, but you can write on your hand if you have to. Never let a good idea escape you! It may be a storyline, a sub-plot or a piece of
