Dedication
This project is dedicated to my brother William Kevin Goodnight, and other believers like him, who lived and died without knowing the full measure of a life in Christ. May these words help to reveal the freedom, joy and power that Christ intended for His people. And may the Church emerge from the mundane and begin to rule and reign in unity with Christ.
A Note from the Editor
Jason Goodnight has been training to write Unveiled for at least the last several years that I have known him, and probably for his entire life. I first met Jason when he was serving as the prayer pastor at my church, and he was a great support to me during a personal struggle. A friendship blossomed between our families, and the Goodnights have been present for some of the most significant events in my family over the last few years.
During that relationship, Jason has prayed with me and my husband on multiple occasions, counseled us in our marriage and in our faith, and been a solid friend in so many ways. I was happy to help him as an editor and writing coach when he began the work on this book, and it was a lot of fun to watch his ideas evolve and to be able to offer feedback on something growing in such a raw, earnest way from my good friend’s heart.
The final product is a clean, coherent book full of practical, gritty instruction on how to shed the layers standing between you and Jesus. Read it, pray your way through it, and listen for His voice.
Forwards
There are two aspects of getting married. Falling in love with your mate is glorious. Meeting the family can be . . . uh, a challenge! Sometimes, people fall passionately in love with Jesus, but meeting the family
and seeing how the family behaves, can be a very disillusioning experience.
It normally doesn’t take too long for believers to discover that their Lord is wonderful, and their brothers and sisters . . . need grace. When romanticism, spiritual idealism, or unrealistic expectations for the family are allowed to take root in ones belief systems or practices, disillusionment, sometimes debilitating, can result. Throw in the carnalities, foibles, and failures that will be common to any human endeavor, including the ekklesia, it can be a disheartening experience.
Learning to love the Lord’s family with the same passion that one loves the Lord is a journey all of us must take. In Unveiled, Jason Goodnight writes in a down-to-earth and warm style of his experience in this journey of learning how to not only survive family dysfunction, but to thrive in it, in love with Jesus . . . and His Bride.
