Extravagance
Behind the Sun
The world keeps rolling and you are a focus animate will
spun from light that has gone before and you are alive with it
but what you learned last century is invalid secure information
replaced believable as video games
When truth moves it grows new surrounds morphs into plasmas
different from the original first second third kind complex
or simple while the hole through the eye notes the changes converts them
into like and unlikely
slots them into boxes aligned against the vagaries of chance –
a crow measures the distance between itself and a sleepy skink or
the crow chooses a cockroach because the reckless thing moves too close
on its glossy clockwork legs
The void in the middle of understanding might never be filled –
the soul loops around it under it licks the outer skin tests for validity
but never identifies the shape of it yet pursues the purpose of seeking it out
wherever it lies –
perhaps in that place behind the sun where you watch comets arrive on time
while errant meteors do not where you consider fear in the face of fire
where you weigh the tangible against the nebulous and wonder
if it matters
You observe the death of a butterfly apply meaning to the last slow tremors
of the dying antennae of wings still whole a quivering
a silent
