Introduction
The purpose of this book is to encourage brothers and sisters in Christ, to be what our Heavenly Father intends us to be as His children, so that we may take our place in the Body of Christ, the Church.
For those who are not believers, I’d like to share briefly, the good news or salvation message.
God wants to have a relationship with every person and He has provided a way through Christ.
For a person to become a Christian, one has to be born again by receiving Jesus as Lord and Saviour. This is so, because of humanity’s identification with Adam who had a sinful nature.
Romans 5: 12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned
Romans 3: 23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
But because of the perfect redemptive work of Jesus, we are made right through our identification with Him.
Romans 5: 18
Therefore, as through one man’s offence judgement came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
Romans 5: 8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3: 16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The world
includes every person; that means everyone has a legal right to become a child of God.
Romans 6: 23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
The above scripture says that salvation is a gift from God; therefore it cannot be earned or bought. It is a free gift. But like any gift, it has to be received or accepted.
Romans 10: 9, 10
That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in
your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
I would like to invite anyone wanting to be a child of God to say this prayer.
Heavenly Father, I thank you for sending Jesus to die for me.
Thank you Jesus for dying for my sin on the cross.
I believe that God raised you from the dead, after paying for my sins.
I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. I ask you to come into my heart.
Thank you Father; now I am your child.
I ask that you help me to live for you.
I thank you in Jesus’ Name.
If you said this prayer and meant it, you are born again spiritually and you are now a child of God.
This is the first step, and the greatest decision a person can make.
God has a good plan for the church and every individual believer.
Following Jesus’ ascension back to Heaven, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Father, where He serves as high priest representing us. On our part Jesus simply wants us to represent Him on earth.
So the church is given the privilege and responsibility to carry out what Jesus started. Also, we are to be like Jesus, walking in love.
1 John 4:17
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the
day of judgement; because as He is, so are we in this world.
Ephesians 1: 22, 23
And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all
things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
These are some of Jesus’ instructions to the church.
Matthew 28: 19
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
John 14: 12
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will
do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
We are to continue the work that Jesus started in his earthly walk; to share the good news, heal the sick, destroy the works of the enemy, help and give hope to the needy.
John 13: 34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved
you, that you also love one another.
This is the heart of Christianity; to be like Jesus, exercising love as a life style.
John 10: 10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come
That they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The fact that Jesus came and made available this abundant life, we as his disciples are expected to experience it.
This abundant life is the godly, fruitful life, which embraces all areas of life, including our ministries and service to Christ.
If we are to successfully carry out Jesus’ commandments, be like Him, and experience His fullness in life, we need to have Jesus the Living Word established and built into us, so that Christ is formed in us.
Galatians 4: 19
My little children, for whom I labour in birth again until Christ is formed in
you.
Christ is to be formed in us to the extent that we may say with Paul, that it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me ( Galatians 2: 20 ).
This is the emphasis of this book; that we can and need to have Christ formed in us. When Christ is formed in us, we will be Christlike, walking in love and faith, which puts us in a position to carry out Jesus’ commandments and experience abundant life.
Chapter 1 - Truths We Need to Know
Satan is the god of the world system.
It is important to point out the condition of the world system we are living in and the spiritual condition of people who do not believe in the God of the Bible.
We also need to be aware that our Christian life is not all smooth sailing, but will have many challenges because we have an enemy, the devil, who will try to disrupt lives, especially believers’ lives. He has all the tricks in the world, because he is the god of this world system; scriptures make that very clear.
2 Corinthians 4: 3-4
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Those who do not believe are spiritually blinded, that is blinded
