Author

Lee Cushing

Lee Cushing is a paranormal thriller author and a lifelong fan of the occult. Having become obsessed with supernatural folklore and the world of horror from an early age, Lee has spent years studying tales of the occult and immersing himself in stories of otherworldly phenomenon. He’s also the owner of a number of vampire and horror-related groups in Facebook, where fellow fans of the supernatural come together to celebrate and discuss all things paranormal.  His debut novel, Voodoo Mambo, blends high-stakes action and shadowy agencies with a dark underworld of demonic creatures and their insidious plots to attack humanity. Lee draws his inspiration from classic horror movies – including Hammer and Universal – as well as beloved TV shows including Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Avengers, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

    Chapter 1

The foreign space ship fell out Earth’s orbit and towards the planet’s surface. The blazing heat from the fire outside the ship, as it fell through Earth’s atmosphere, did little to damage ship itself.

The ship endured it’s fiery covering and the air resistance as it drew closer and closer to the surface of the planet. It shone bright in the night sky and left a trail of smoke behind it. To amateur stargazers, it would be a comet or a meteor but those would break apart and this was holding together... as best as it could.

It shook and spun uncontrollably as it approached the surface. It was not able to control it’s movement although the pilot’s tried to.

The ship drew closer and closer to land. It seemed like it was going to crash in a quiet English town known as Danville but it needed up landing a bit beyond the outskirts of Danville. The ship shook recklessly as it came in contact with the land.

It landed in the ground making a giant crater in the dirt. It slammed into a giant boulder and broke it into pieces, moving a couple meters more before coming to rest.

The rocky landing had done some damage to the ship itself but from the exterior it looked like it was alright and ready to go, except a small hole in the space ship.

The man in Danville’s watchtower saw the beautiful bright light crash violently into the ground far from his outpost, through his binoculars. The watchtower was on the outskirts of Danville so he could easily trek to the crash and check it out.

He wanted to go and find out what happened to ease his curiosity but another part of him warned him that he could lose his job at the outpost.

He sat down on a nearby rock, trying to choose between his two options. He felt like rushing out there and appeasing his curiosity but his sensible side made him want to stay. His curiosity got the better of him.

I could just say I was patrolling if I am seen. He thought to himself.

I grabbed a pair of flashlights, wanting two just in case. He also grabbed his shotgun and hung it on his back.

He walked down the stairs of the watchtower eagerly. He finally arrived at the bottom and closed the door behind him.

He turned on his torch, piercing
