Foreword……..
To all of the incredible people in my life, this book is my offering to honor how each of you have influenced me. Without you, there is no me.
To my incredible son Davis and daughter Landri, the two of you have helped me grow and change my perspective on life from day one. I love both of you more than you can ever imagine. Davis, watching you develop and your endless curiosity of the world is what makes me anticipate waking up each and every day. Landri, as I am penning this you are still in the womb but from your place of development you have already made such an impact on life. Your mother and I each place our hands on her stomach and feel you kick, that's a miracle within itself. I cannot wait to meet you and I promise that I will do everything in my power to give you and your brother as much of this world as I possibly can.
Love,
Dad
It’s not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.
Winston S. Churchill
An Introduction
My apologies, I did not have a chance to properly introduce myself the first time around when we met. I instantly jumped straight to the question, ‘Why Not?’. When I completed my first book, I wish I could say that it felt like a mountain had been lifted off of my shoulders but that was not the case. I was excited as hell that I could say I wrote a book, but now I was dealing with the what if thoughts.
I could not get out of my own way. Anxiety, pressure and a loss of confidence was beginning to take over my mind. I could not stand the sight of it, therefore, I did not read my own book once it was published. Looking back, I developed feelings of shame and wrong doing just by writing it. If you are here for the second time, you will recall that I dedicated an entire chapter to overcoming pain and fear while I was once again questioning myself and my abilities. These feelings caused me to look deeper within myself. It seemed like as soon as I began this journey, an abrupt transformation pushed me even further from being able to focus on myself and my latest project. I became disgruntled with my career and the frustration I was experiencing began to noticeably spill over into every facet of my life. My personal and professional relationships began to suffer and the added stress began to noticeably affect my health. I developed a medical condition that could not be diagnosed properly or healed with pharmaceuticals. For me to begin having health issues was a new territory that I had never experienced in life. I have always lived an active lifestyle participating in organized sports since I was young and even after I hung up my sneakers, walking away from competitive athletics, I maintained a strict routine of physical fitness. Working out at a minimum 4 times a week from functional weight training, boxing to spin classes, I believed that I would always be the poster child for good health. But as I learned when your emotional, physical and spiritual well-being is not balanced, neglect of any one of those over time will adversely affect the others. For me, that ultimately began to manifest in my health, well-being and quality of life. I was miserable and it showed outwardly with my attitude, actions and energy.
I began seeking alternative methods of healing and therapy which provided me temporary relief, but I was not in search of anything short-term. I was looking for the route that directed my behavior, controlled my impulses, so that I could achieve the goals I created for myself. So there I was, once again finding myself in a meat grinder with life forcing me to make changes.
Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habi stated:
Any behavior that can be reduced to a routine is one less behavior that we must spend time and energy consciously thinking about and deciding upon
I had to travel through madness to rediscover me and my routine once again. My growth placed me through a temporary period of discomfort but what allowed me to not tap out was that I always maintained a roadmap to what I deemed success.
My favorite saying is, "Your focus may change but your goals remain the same."
Now in this phase of life, I was the one who had to make adjustments and to look within to address my issues. I had just become a father and with that comes a tremendous
