Introduction
IT Service Continuity Objectives
The main purpose of the Information Technology (IT) service continuity plan is to develop a document that provides a set of guidelines to efficiently address any disruption in the Data Processing Department, thus reducing the impact on the overall operations of the organization ( Tariq et al., 2021). The relevance of this objective lies in the growing dependence of companies on the services and data provided by these departments (Smith, 2020).
In addition, the plan also aims to improve the security of employees and their resources, with the purpose of protecting both human assets and critical information of the organization, of which the data center is only the custodian (Mataracioglu & Ozkan , 2019).
The continuity of IT services also ensures continuity in business operations. This is achieved through tests previously carried out in an alternative center and the corresponding documentation that contains the appropriate procedures for the restoration of the services established in the plan (Herbane, 2019). The design and implementation of these procedures must effectively and reasonably address business interruptions related to the Data Center and its services.
A business interruption refers to the appearance of an event that causes a severe impact on business processes, preventing the performance of a significant part of their activities and negatively affecting the processing of information, production or provision of services (Snedaker & Rhyme, 2020).
The continuity of IT services in an entity establishes the stages to be followed in the project of elaboration of the contingency plan. The basic components of IT service continuity include (Mataracioglu & Ozkan, 2019): Education, Executives, Interdisciplinary groups, All employees, Development, Recovery tests, Documentation (Contingency plan), Maintenance.
