About this ebook

Song of the Free Soul – The Avadhuta Gita, is a Hindi classic text to which I have attempted to bring new meaning with English words more suited to the 21st Century without losing the essence of the original Sanskrit.

The wonderful work is as relevant today as it was when it was first spoken, or sung, and can be a valuable aid to those on their personal spiritual journey.

I hope it offers you clear guidance.

    Introduction

The original version of this book had quite a long introduction, and I was guided to re-publish without such an explanation, but a small part is still valid. I think it is worth stating right up front that I am not a Sanskrit scholar, nor do I think of myself as an expert in English. At my age (I am seventy-one years old as I write this) my style of writing is regarded as a bit old-fashioned by some and it was a very long time ago that a teacher tried to instil the nuances of the English language into me.

With that said, my objective was simple. Take a beautiful piece of scripture and turn it into more colloquial language better suited for the 21st century, without losing the essence of what is being told. I have only used one Sanskrit word, Brahman. Brahman is all there is, the Absolute Self.

Things have also moved on for me and you can see how if you search for Conscious in Plain Words on popular blogging sites, especially the one that begins with ‘Sub’ – it has to do with Amazon!

You can also email consciousnessinplainwords@gmail.com if you would like to order a paperback copy of this book.

Remember, You are Love and Loved.

    Lord Dattatreya

As with most Hindu spiritual stories, there are many different explanations as to who Lord Dattatreya is. You can scour the internet for various opinions and descriptions. If you are interested to know more, an excellent aural guide is given by Dr Robert Svoboda on YouTube at:
