    Preparing for Pregnancy

    Understanding Your Body

    Before embarking on the journey to motherhood, it’s important to understand how your body works. Female reproductive health is complex, and getting to know the basics will help you feel empowered and prepared as you enter this exciting phase of life.

    At the core of female fertility is the menstrual cycle, which typically lasts around 28 days but can vary between 21 and 35 days. The menstrual cycle is divided into several key phases: the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. Each phase plays a critical role in preparing your body for pregnancy.

    Follicular Phase (Days 1-14): This phase begins on the first day of your period. During this time, your body releases hormones like follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which helps your ovaries prepare eggs for ovulation. At the same time, estrogen levels rise to help thicken the uterine lining, creating a nourishing environment for a fertilized egg.

    Ovulation (Around Day 14): Ovulation usually occurs in the middle of the cycle. The luteinizing hormone (LH) triggers the release of a mature egg from the ovary. The egg then travels down the fallopian tube, where it may meet sperm and become fertilized. This is the optimal window for conception, which lasts about 24 hours. However, since sperm can survive up to five days in a woman’s reproductive system, the fertile window typically spans five to six days.

    Luteal Phase (Days 15-28): After ovulation, the luteal phase begins. The body produces progesterone, which helps maintain the uterine lining in case of pregnancy. If the egg is fertilized and implants into the lining, pregnancy begins. If not, progesterone levels drop, leading to menstruation and the start of
