    How to Meditate

    by Sylvia Browne

(Sylvia is the founder of the church called Society of

Novus Spiritus, located in Campbell, California.

The meditations in this book are based on the

    tenets of her church.)

Quite a bit of the meditation process is achieved through the senses. Many people who are asked to visualize say that they don’t know how, or they’ve tried to do it without much success. As I’ve said many times before, if you can trace the route you’ve just driven in your mind’s eye, then you can visualize. However, rarely do we visualize in living color. This sometimes takes a great deal of practice. After all, we are viewing from within, not with our physical eyes.

We can also receive messages through infusion, a process where a thought appears in our minds. Many times we wonder where it comes from. Simply put, when we quiet the constant chatter of our minds, we open our channels to unseen, loving companions along the pathway of our lives. Our most constant companion is our spirit guide, who is our messenger from God. With practice, we can meet our guide through meditation.

Basically, prayer is asking something of God; meditation is listening for the answer. So, rid your mind of any preconceived notions about what to expect or experience. Use the following method of relaxation as a tool to prepare yourself for the meditations in this book, then let the beauty flow through your consciousness.

    MEDITATIONS_0012_001

Surround yourself with the white light of the Holy Spirit (or God, or however you address the Higher Power). Sit with your feet flat on the floor, your back comfortably resting against the back of the chair. Loosen any tight clothing. Place your hands upward on your thighs (this helps you open yourself up to receive grace). Take a deep breath to begin the relaxation response. Then breathe regularly, as if you were going to sleep. Cement your intellect and emotions together.
