Division Director

Farron Wallace is the Director of the Fisheries, Assessment, Technology, Engineering Support (FATES) Division NOAA Fisheries' Southeast Fisheries Science Center. Mr. Wallace takes the lead of the newly created Division as reorganization of center staff concludes on October 10, 2021.

Mr. Wallace came to work with the center as the Galveston laboratory's director on June 10, 2019. Prior to his appointment, he was a senior fisheries research scientist at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle, Washington. While there he formed and led the Electronic Monitoring Innovation project that employs artificial intelligence to automated image analysis to determine catch size and species identification. He served on the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council's Science and Statistical Committee as Chair, Vice-chair and member. He has served as a senior stock assessment scientist for over 20 years, conducting assessments for Pacific coastal species, overseeing port sampling efforts, leading tag studies, designing ROV and creel surveys.
