“You know who I am, Angel. Now, repeat after me: I love you, Mommy.”
In all of horror, few characters remain so beloved as Laurie Strode. Originated by Jamie Lee Curtis in John Carpenter’s Halloween, this intrepid babysitter anchors one of the genre’s greatest films while helping to create an iconic trope that has changed the way we view women in film. Laurie becomes a final girl when she survives Michael Myers (Nick Castle) and a horrific Halloween night, but she’s cursed to carry the weight of this trauma alone. Out of all the sequels, remakes, timelines, and lore, no one explores the legacy of pain left in Michael’s wake like Rob Zombie. His Halloween II is an angry film that rubs our noses in the sorrow, guilt, shame, and pain still guiding Laurie’s shattered life. This polarizing sequel takes a wild swing at Michael...

One of the great aspects of micro-streaming services is the ability to celebrate granual elements of the genre. For years, horror fans have found long documentaries like Crystal Lake Memories and Never Sleep Again to celebrate their favorite horror icons. Thommy Hutson, the writer on both of those films, now takes over the director’s chair for Doc of Chucky. The five-hour epic documentary highlights the iconic killer doll – Chucky – and the franchise through the lens of Don Mancini’s career. We sat down with Hutson to discuss the film and the difficulty of covering a series with so many twists and turns.
Why Chucky deserved the long-doc treatment
After already covering Freddie, Jason, and Return of the Living Dead, Hutson had to review the genre and decide where to go next. “It really became a question of what’s left. What’s really left to explore in that big...

Arriving on Shudder on November 1st is Doc of Chucky, the "ultimate account" of the Child's Play franchise from Never Sleep Again and Crystal Lake Memories' Thommy Hutson, who joined us for our latest Q&a feature:
What was your first experience watching Chucky and why is the series so important to you that you wanted it to be the focus of your latest documentary?
I absolutely remember watching the original Child’s Play in the theatre in 1988. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I remember being quite scared of not just the power of the doll coming to life but also the gleefully evil way Chucky said and did such terrible things. There was this sort of unstoppable joy in being so horrific. I also felt struck by the plight of Andy as a little boy who was looking toward this plaything as a source of comfort, only...

Two years have passed since the release of musician / filmmaker Rob Zombie’s latest film, his update of the classic sitcom The Munsters, and we still don’t know what he’s going to make next (although we do have a wish list of movies we’d like to see him make). While we anxiously wait to hear what Zombie’s going to do next, we have decided to take a look back at all of the movies he has made, from House of 1000 Corpses to The Munsters, to put together a list of some of the Best Scenes from Rob Zombie movies to date.

Nobody thinks they’ve got an accent, which means they really notice when someone is imitating their accent so badly that it borders on mockery. For instance, most Americans would describe their own speech as “normal,” but have you ever heard a foreign actor just completely bomb it? If not, go watch Iwan Rheon pretend to be an American rock star in The Dirt, Just his scenes, though. That movie is a lot.
That’s why it’s all the more impressive when they get it right, even if, by the nature of getting it right, you never even notice. “In high school, I remember people being shocked to learn Hugh Laurie was English when House was huge,” Redditor homeMalone89 told r/Movies. “I think Daniel Kaluuya’s American accent work is the best there currently is.”

Child’s Play is one of the most beloved horror movie franchises.
The franchise, created by Don Mancini, centers around Chucky, a notorious serial killer who performed a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into a “Good Guy” doll.
The original film was released in 1988, and has since spawned sequels, a USA Network and SyFy television series, comic books, a video game, and plenty of merchandise, garnering over $250 million.
We’ve rounded up all of the Child’s Play movies, and ranked them from worst to best based on Letterboxd reviews.

After season three of Chucky ended, fans were subjected to a painfully long wait as the show’s future was decided. Ultimately, USA/SyFy/Peacock canceled Chucky and the entire horror world shed a bloody tear. Even if you weren’t a fan of the franchise, it’s hard to deny how great it was having a classic horror villain get such a mainstream spotlight. Hell, we even got to see Chucky kill WWE Women’s Champion Liv Morgan. It’s the kind of thing that only works in the ludicrous world of Chucky. And with Season 3 ending off on such a cliffhanger, this cancellation really leaves fans high and dry. But there’s still hope in multiple forms.
Don Manicini mentioned earlier this year that he was prepping another movie involving Chucky and it would “work in tandem with the TV show.” Obviously, with this change of events, I...

Stephen King isn’t just an author by this point: He’s an institution, a legacy of classic horror stories that capture our imaginations, fuel our nightmares, and speak — when he’s at his best — to our shared experiences as flawed, emotional beings. The best King stories scare so many of us that we all feel connected, and even the worst are usually pretty fun.
King’s books and short stories quickly became hit movies, many of them celebrated in their time, and some flopped so hard that hardly anybody remembers them. Cataloguing every adaptation might be a fool’s errand, so we made some tough choices and decided to focus only on his theatrical releases.
And even then, there are so many King adaptations that it gets tricky. The sequels to King’s work rarely have anything to do with the source material, so they’re all disqualified. We...

Chucky season 3 aired its finale at the start of May, and even though series creator Don Mancini had already pitched his idea for season 4 to the network and Chucky himself requested viewer support, we learned last week that Chucky – which aired on both Syfy and USA Network, in addition to streaming on the Peacock service – has been cancelled. Mancini has already promised that Chucky will return, whether he has his own TV show or not, and we’ve known for months that another movie is in development – but the cast of the TV show is hoping that it will still be able to continue on a different network.
Chucky cast members Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, and Billy Boyd appeared on a panel at Terror Con in Marlborough, Massachusetts over the weekend. When the subject of the show’s cancellation came up, Fiona Dourif said (with thanks...

From Sylvester Stallone’s futuristic cop battles to intergalactic critters wreaking havoc, this month’s releases are an eclectic mix that promise something for everyone.
Leading the December collection is Demolition Man, starring Sylvester Stallone as the no-nonsense cop John Spartan, facing off against Wesley Snipes’ anarchic Simon Phoenix. Set in a future where crime is virtually extinct, Spartan is thawed out of CryoPrison to combat Phoenix, whose old-school brutality is wreaking havoc on a society that no longer knows how to handle him. The film, which also features Sandra Bullock in her breakout role, has been given a brand new 4K restoration by Arrow Films, offering fans both the domestic “Taco Bell” and international “Pizza Hut” versions of the movie. Killer doll Chucky won’t be returning to small screens as his TV show gets cancelled after three seasons. More on the news below.
Chucky gave countless kids and adults plenty of nightmares in 1988 when Tom Holland’s Child’s Play hit cinemas. The film spawned off a relatively successful franchise, which got its own reboot in 2019.
Even though the reboot was financially successful, it failed to make a splash and in 2021, Chucky moved to the small screen with his own TV show, imaginatively titled Chucky. The series brought back Brad Dourif as the voice of the title doll and all three seasons received positive reviews from critics.
However, it turns out that wasn’t enough as Chucky has been cancelled, as reported by Variety.
“I’m heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have,...

The Syfy and USA Networks have canceled the television series adaptation of the popular horror franchise “Child’s Play” after three seasons. Known as “Chucky,” the show had gained a loyal fan following since its debut but will conclude with many plotlines left unresolved.
Don Mancini, the creator of the “Child’s Play” films and driving creative force behind the TV series, expressed his disappointment publicly. However, he hinted that this may not be the end for the murderous doll, cryptically stating “He’LL Be Back.” Jennifer Tilly, a core part of the franchise since 1998’s “Bride of Chucky” took to social media to reassure fans, saying that resurrections are a specialty of Chucky and there are many left.
So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the television series “Chucky” has finally been canceled.
First I’d like to think our fans, who managed to keep the #RenewChucky hashtag trending for Months!

As the stars of Chucky mourn the Syfy show’s death, they have faith in Damballa that the horror franchise will soon be resurrected.
Following Friday’s news that the Child’s Play spin-off series will end after three seasons, creator Don Mancini continued to tease the killer doll’s onscreen future amid a #RenewChucky fan campaign as he and the show’s stars reacted to its cancelation.
“He’LL Be Back,” wrote Mancini on X, sharing Deadline’s previous report. “I have so much love for our amazing fans. Your #RenewChucky campaign meant the world to me during a very difficult time. Chucky says to tell all of you, quoting himself: ‘See ya real soon.'”
Jennifer Tilly, who reprised her role from the films as Tiffany Valentine (and herself) for the series, also shared her reaction on the platform. “So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the...

It's a sad day for fans of the killer doll Chucky. Despite garnering a cult following and being beloved by critics, Syfy has opted not to renew the series for a fourth season, meaning that season 3 will be the last, per Variety.
Acting as a sequel to the seventh film in the Child's Play franchise, Cult of Chucky, the Chucky television show took the franchise in a new direction, and it was an absolute blast from start to finish. The team behind the series clearly dearly loved the show and cared deeply about the project. It helps that franchise creator Don Mancini returned to helm the show along with Brad Dourif as the iconic voice of the doll. Other fan-favorite characters like Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly) and Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) also returned, and viewers became attached to the new characters introduced by the show.

Chucky has been terrorizing audiences for over three and a half decades, but it seems his run has finally come to an end. The television series, based on the iconic Child’s Play franchise, followed seven films and served as a sequel to the 2017 movie Cult of Chucky. After airing three seasons on both Syfy and USA Network, the Chucky series has been canceled.

This cancellation didn’t surprise many fans, as the show’s decline in quality became apparent during the second and third seasons. While Don Mancini’s series successfully balanced the ‘scary’ and ‘campy’ in its first season, the second and third seasons faced criticism for steering away from its horror roots.

"Batman & Robin" was so panned for its campiness that Warner Bros. had no choice but to pivot to a dark and gritty reboot, resulting in Christopher Nolan's acclaimed "Dark Knight" trilogy. This is filmmaking mythology almost as well-known as Batman's own origin of alleyway orphaning. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even calls "Batman & Robin" one of the most important superhero movies, for it taught studios that fans wouldn't settle for schlock. In hindsight, it's almost unbelievable that "Batman & Robin" and "Batman Begins" premiered only eight years apart; the Dark Knight's fall didn't last long!
There were abandoned plans for director Joel Schumacher to make a third Batman film, though. "Batman Unchained," to be penned by Mark Protosevich (rather than previous screenwriter Akiva Goldsman) was supposedly going to be "darker." The villains would've been Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow and Harley Quinn, which makes sense. At the time,...

Fans of the comedy horror Bodies Bodies Bodies will be disappointed to learn that the movie will leave Netflix on Sept. 19, 2024. But the good news is that a long list of horror comedies is available on the streaming service to fill the void. And don't miss this year's Netflix & Chills lineup.
Bodies Bodies Bodies and other horror comedies are a unique subgenre of horror that mixes slasher elements with absurd comedic ones. Mixing comedy with horror is nothing new, as Edgar Allan Poe and other writers often combined the two in their works.
Bride of Chucky
Bride of Chucky is the fourth installment of the Child's Play franchise, written by creator Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, also known for Freddy vs. Jason (2003). Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, with Jennifer Tilly portraying Tiffany Valentine, a role she would reprise in several other installments of the franchise.

The true heir to William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin’s 1973 masterpiece, The Exorcist III is returning this Halloween with a brand new 4K restoration from Arrow Video.
Arrow Video brings The Exorcist III to 4K Ultra HD in the United Kingdom on October 7, and Bloody Disgusting is exclusively debuting the trailer for the new restoration today.
The personal vision of Blatty (the acclaimed author of The Exorcist), The Exorcist III is set 15 years after the events of the first film and sees Lieutenant Kinderman investigate a series of horrific murders that follow the modus operandi of the notorious Gemini Killer… who died several years earlier in the electric chair.
After his friend Father Dyer (Ed Flanders) is murdered in his hospital bed, Kinderman’s investigations lead him to ‘Patient X’, a psychopath housed at the same hospital who claims to be the Gemini Killer, and who knows intimate crime scene details.

It can be hard to tell sometimes what is a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw. You look at the credentials on a particular film without looking at the title and surely it has to be a mega popular hit. You have Italian mega director Dario Argento, Oscar nominated Piper Laurie, James Russo, Brad Douriff, and special effects by another master of his craft in none other than Tom Savini. I set you up with all those names and accomplishments and maybe you wrack your brain on the possibility that you have seen or even heard of the movie. But I say have you seen the 1993 horror movie Trauma (watch it Here) and I’m guessing for most people, the answer will be no. That is a sure fire way for a movie to end up on this show and that’s why today you will learn why Trauma is...

Facehugging foes. All-time-great action heroes. A sense of sheer unknowable terror. Over four decades since the Alien saga first hatched from a mysterious pulsing egg – and burst out of John Hurt’s chest – the sci-fi horror franchise remains one of the all-time greats. Spanning an incredible 45 years and nine instalments (counting the Alien Vs Predator crossovers), the franchise continues to reinvent itself with each entry – from haunted house movie, to war actioner, to prison drama, to existential sci-fi exploration.
With director Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus in cinemas – and Noah Hawley’s upcoming TV series Alien: Earth soon to scare us on the small screen – Empire hopped on a ship to Lv-426 to argue the toss over which Alien movie is the best. Read the official ranking below.
9) Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem
The Brothers Strause’s disastrous 2007 sequel Avp: Requiem continued the multi-franchise crossover between the cinema’s two most beloved extraterrestrial horror creatures.

There aren't many movie series more iconic or long-lived than Alien. It's been almost 50 years since director Ridley Scott changed sci-fi with his own distinct take on the genre, adding in horror elements to make something truly unique. Since then, the Xenomorph has hardly ever been off our screens, with seven main films in the franchise so far, becoming a huge part of popular culture along the way. With the newest Alien movie, Alien: Romulus, now in theaters, let's go through the whole series and rank the movies worst to best!
7. Alien 3 (1992)
Coming off the back of Aliens, one of the strongest movies in the franchise, Alien 3 looked like it could be a great film, but sadly it failed to live up to its potential. It started off on the wrong foot, killing popular characters Hicks and Newt offscreen before the movie even started, and wasting so much potential.

A new episode of the Revisited video series has arrived online this morning – and since the latest entry in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is currently in theatres, we decided this would be a good time to look back at one of the least popular Alien movies, the 1997 release Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here). In the video embedded above, you’ll hear how this film’s odd and wacky tone managed to kill the franchise. For a while, anyway.
Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet from a screenplay written by Joss Whedon, Alien: Resurrection has the following synopsis: The saga continues 200 years after Ripley sacrificed herself for the sake of humanity. Her erstwhile employers long gone, this time it is the military that resurrects the one-woman killing machine through genetic cloning to extract the alien from within her, but during the process her DNA is fused with the queen and then the aliens escape.

Yellowstone has become one of the biggest shows on television, as it should because the series is a brilliant piece of art, which deserves every praise it gets. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the neo-Western drama series revolves around the Dutton family who own the largest ranch in America. While there is a lot of infighting amongst the family they must all stand together to protect what’s there from several enemies. Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Jefferson White, and Ian Bohen. Now, that Yellowstone is ending soon with Part 2 of its Season 5, we are here to suggest some similar shows while you wait for the final Yellowstone episodes.

If work can be hell, no genre illustrates this better than horror. From Ellen Ripley to Ashley J. Williams, there’s no shortage of working-class heroes populating scary movies. This makes a lot of sense, as the only thing scarier than having to deal with ghosts and bogeymen is realizing that you still have to get up for work the next morning because demonic possession can’t be written off as a sick day.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating 6 blue-collar horror movies featuring characters working thankless (but entirely necessary) jobs while also stumbling into terrifying situations. After all, horror is at its best when it hits close to home, and I think it’s safe to assume that very few genre fans are reading this from inside their Victorian-era haunted mansions.

Frank Herbert's "Dune" has a longer timeline than one might expect. The first book takes place in the year 10,191 A.G., referring to a time after the inception of the Spacing Guild, the organization devoted to faster-than-light travel. Later sequels refer to the year 11,200 B.G. as the year humans first developed space travel, lining it up with A.D. 1960. "Dune," then, takes place about 20,000 years in the future.
"Star Trek," in contrast, takes place in the relatively near future. The original series takes place in the 23rd century, and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" -- and its immediate spinoffs "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek" Voyager," and "Star Trek: Lower Decks" -- all take place in the 24th century. Extending the timeline, "Picard" takes place in the early 25th century, and the bulk of "Discovery" takes place in 32nd century, thanks to a time warp. Comparatively, those...

“The Lord of the Rings” is the most successful film series in the history of the Academy Awards, winning 17 Oscars including two Best Picture awards out of 30 total nominations.
Both “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Return of the King” won Best Picture while Peter Jackson won Best Director for the latter movie, which holds the joint record for most Oscar wins of all time with 11 victories (the same number as “Ben-Hur” and “Titanic”). However, the lauded trilogy only received one acting citation — that was for Ian McKellen for Best Supporting Actor for “The Fellowship of the Ring.”
But while the Oscars didn’t nominate nearly enough actors in this trilogy (shout out to Andy Serkis), “The Lord of the Rings” cast is full of incredible actors who have received multiple awards nominations for other projects. Considering it is Emmys season, we’re going to focus on Emmys.

Arrow Video is set to deliver a thrilling array of horror films to the UK this Halloween season. Fans can anticipate the release of two versions of Exorcist II: The Heretic, Exorcist III in 4K, the darkly humorous anthology Trick ‘r Treat, and a seven-film J-Horror limited edition collection.
Exorcist II: The Heretic
Directed by John Boorman, Exorcist II: The Heretic is a visionary thriller that defies expectations with its unique approach. The film stars Linda Blair, Louise Fletcher, and Richard Burton, and features breathtaking cinematography and a standout score by Ennio Morricone. Following the exorcism that saved Regan MacNeil (Blair) and caused the deaths of two priests, Regan’s therapist, Dr. Tuskin (Fletcher), believes her memories are simply repressed and waiting. Father Philip Lamont (Burton), tasked by the Vatican to investigate Father Merrin, finds himself drawn into a spiritual battle that spans from Africa to New York and Georgetown.

While we wait to find out if USA and Syfy are going to #RenewChucky for a fourth season, Home Depot has announced a killer new Chucky animatronic is headed our way.
Set for release this Halloween season, the Home Depot Exclusive animatronic decoration measures 3.5-feet tall, and it features both motion and sound bites from Brad Dourif!
Home Depot’s official teaser video previews, “Standing 3.5 feet tall, this freckled relic of the 1980s is everyone’s best friend… and worst enemy. He may look innocent enough in his striped shirt and overalls, but play at your own risk. The 3.5-foot animated Chucky is motion sensor activated; his head and body start to move, blink and speak. But he isn’t toying around.”
The decoration will be selling for $199.99 in stores and online from Home Depot, which is more than reasonable for what looks to be one of the better Chucky decorations on the market.
