VP and Democrat nominee Kamala Harris is currently fighting a tough battle with Republican Donald Trump in this year’s Presidential election. The campaign this year has been nothing short of cinematic and is inching towards its climax on election day. However, the days preceding were nothing short of controversial.
Both Trump and Harris took to celebrity endorsements, with the latter receiving support from prominent Hollywood stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and more. However, Trump supporter and tech giant Elon Musk alleged that Hollywood stars were threatened by the Harris campaign to support or face consequences on their careers.

While visiting Paris to present the French premiere of “The Substance” and receive a career tribute at the French Cinematheque, Demi Moore linked Coralie Fargeat’s bold body horror film to the themes undergirding the U.S. electoral nail-biter now occupying everyone’s minds.
“America is built on Puritans, religious fanatics and criminals,” she said from the stage of the French Cinematheque on Tuesday. “[And] you’re kind of seeing [as much] in our election right now.”
Indeed, the Hollywood icon made a distinction between the European sensibility that informed “The Substance” and the pervading mentality that the movie has tried to subvert.
“Sexuality is always taboo,” she continued. “And there’s a lot of fear in America around the body. That’s something I’ve never understood or related to. I’ve certainly stirred the pot in a few of the films I’ve chosen, which is partly because [I’ve never understood that fear] of the body.

Demi Moore is going glam in France!
The 61-year-old actress posed for photos while posing for photos at the premiere of her new movie The Substance on Tuesday (November 5) held at Cinematheque Francaise in Paris, France.
Demi looked chic in a dark navy coat over a black, silver, and pink floral dress as she was joined at the premiere by director Coralie Fargeat and Thierry Fremaux, who is the director of the Institut Lumière, of the Lumière Film Festival, and of the Cannes Film Festival.
In the movie, Demi stars as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by repellent studio head Harvey (Dennis Quaid). She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: The Substance. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twenty-something Sue (Margaret Qualley). The only rule?...

Drea de Matteo never was particularly political. Her only partisan statement came via a 2010 music video she directed for Shooter Jenning’s “Summer of Rage” — a not-so-subtle jab at the Bush-Cheney administration’s ever-churning war machine. In 2020, she voted for the first time in her life in the presidential election, casting her ballot for Joe Biden in his bid to replace Donald Trump in the White House. Then, as the Covid pandemic entered its second year, everything came crashing down for “The Sopranos” actress whose Adriana La Cerva provided the sole conscience in a sea of moral degenerates.
“I’m a hippie. I didn’t want to get the vaccine. I wanted to wait it out to see what the outcome was,” she says.
Her family shunned her for being anti-vax. She became persona non grata among the Hollywood set. And her agent, who she considered a friend, dropped her.

The actress was celebrated for her girl-next-door charm and romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail. However, there was one film that ended up putting a full stop on her amazing career.

We were sad to hear that veteran character actor Louis Gossett Jr, who got his acting start in Broadway productions back in 1950s (including Take a Giant Step and a 1959 production of A Raisin in the Sun where he shared the stage with Sidney Poitier), had passed away at 87. While we have to get used to the fact that our favorite actors are all human, and like all of us, eventually pass away, it can’t help but hurt anytime we lose a legend like this. But he leaves behind a rich legacy, so let’s look back at five of his coolest roles.

Louis Gossett Jr. won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in this, and became the first African-American actor to win an Academy Award in that category in the process. Next to R. Lee Ermey...

Zachary Levi, the star of the two Shazam films in the Dceu, is making headlines lately, but not because of his acting career. In recent weeks, he has openly supported presidential candidate Donald Trump.
This has led to a lot of negative reactions from his fans and fans of his movies.
Zachary Levi recently took to Instagram to reply to Whoopi Goldberg’s claim that Hollywood has “always been a very right-leaning town.” This discussion started after Levi publicly supported Donald Trump for president on The View. He said that backing Trump could hurt his career because Hollywood is mostly liberal.
Goldberg disagreed, calling his statement “more B.S.” She explained that Hollywood has a mix of beliefs and sometimes has more Democrats or Republicans, but very few people openly say they are Republican. She also mentioned that some Republican actors, like Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid, still have successful careers.

Zachary Levi recently took to Instagram to refute Whoopi Goldberg’s claim that Hollywood has “always been a very right-leaning town.” Goldberg tried to teach the “Shazam” actor a lesson during an episode of “The View” earlier this month after he publicly endorses Donald Trump for president. Levi said he was risking career suicide by supporting Trump because “Hollywood is a very, very liberal town.”
Goldberg rejected the claim as “more B.S.” and told Levi that “we’re a mixed bunch” in Hollywood and “sometimes it seems like there’s more Democrats and sometimes it seems like there’s more Republicans, but the truth of the matter is very few people seem to bite it because they’re Republican.” She went on to cite the ongoing careers of “working” Republican actors like Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid.

Streaming giant Mubi has announced that it will release The Substance, the latest film from Coralie Fargeat, on 31 October 2024 – just in time for Halloween. A provocative exploration of the beauty industry and its impacts on women’s self-image, The Substance stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, and Dennis Quaid, delivering an electrifying blend of horror, satire, and social commentary. The release date and the newly revealed trailer have already generated excitement, promising audiences a horror film that cuts deep into modern anxieties around appearance and worth.
The Substance centres around Elisabeth Sparkle, played by Demi Moore in a role that critics have called one of her best. Sparkle, a former A-list TV fitness host, is ousted from her show by an exploitative studio head, Harvey (Dennis Quaid). Facing an uncertain future, she encounters The Substance, a mysterious drug offering a path back to her youth – if only for one week at a time.

Jack Quaid stole our hearts away as the very lovable yet sometimes infuriating Hughie Campbell in The Boys. Time and again, he has established himself as an extremely capable actor. Seven years have gone by since director Coralie Fargeat made her feature directorial debut with a very cool revenge movie that was appropriately titled Revenge – you can read our 8/10 review of the film at This Link. Now Fargeat is back with an “explosive feminist take on body horror” called The Substance, which stars Demi Moore (Ghost) and Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). The movie received a theatrical release last month (you can read our 9/10 review Here), and now it has been announced that The Substance will be available to stream exclusively on Mubi as of October 31st. No tricks – just a Halloween treat…
The film is gory, but also humorous, and it’s quite a wild ride. Here’s the official synopsis: It generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect you. And there’s only one rule: You share time. One week for you.

It seems like everyone’s talking about (and unfortunately sharing social media Gif spoilers from) The Substance, Coralie Fargeat’s body-swapping, body-horror masterpiece starring Demi Moore as a fading celebrity who injects herself with a cell-replicating green substance that quite literally makes her give birth to a younger version of herself (Margaret Qualley).
With its shades of David Cronenberg and Stuart Gordon, The Substance firmly catapults Fargeat (Revenge) into the realm of mad genius, and distributor Mubi has managed to scare up $34 million at the worldwide box office thanks largely to the incredibly positive word-of-mouth. Granted, this movie should be making way more money than that, but I digress.
If you’ve been dying to experience The Substance but haven’t been able to get out to your local theater, the good news is that Fargeat’s new movie is coming home for Halloween!
In fact, The Substance heads home On Halloween.

Granted, this movie should be making way more money than that, but I digress.
If you’ve been dying to experience The Substance but haven’t been able to get out to your local theater, the good news is that Fargeat’s new movie is coming home for Halloween!

Maybe The Substance should forgo the comedy/drama debate at the Golden Globes and just enter as a documentary. According to a new age discrimination lawsuit, Hallmark's VP of programming, Linda Hamilton Daly, acted a lot like Dennis Quaid's character in the film and created two perfect candidates...

The Substance (2024) is a satirical body horror film written, directed, and co-produced by Coralie Fargeat. The story centers on Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), a fading celebrity who is fired from her TV show for being deemed too old. Desperate to regain her youth and career, she turns to a mysterious black market drug known as The Substance, which has the ability to create a younger version of herself named Sue (Margaret Qualley).
The program comes with strict rules: Elisabeth and Sue must alternate every seven days, sharing the same consciousness. As they navigate this bizarre arrangement, unexpected and grotesque side effects begin to unravel their lives. The film blends dark humor and body horror, drawing comparisons to Cronenberg’s work, with stellar performances from the cast. Some view it as a grotesque fever dream that explores themes of identity, obsession with youth, and the price of vanity. Set in both urban and isolated locations,...

It’s time to update your Golden Globe predictions at Gold Derby, because a major contender has just announced its awards strategy for the upcoming 2025 kudos. “The Substance” and its lead actress Demi Moore will compete in the Comedy/Musical categories, per our sister site The Hollywood Reporter. Previously, awards pundits assumed Mubi’s body horror flick would enter in the Drama races, but the satirical nature of the project convinced the campaigners — after a “debate even within the film’s and Moore’s camps” — to try their luck elsewhere.
This news comes on the heels of the November 4 submission deadline for the 2025 Golden Globes. THR’s Scott Feinberg previously unveiled the campaign strategies for many of the other films that could be seen as straddling the line between Drama and Comedy/Musical.

Being perhaps a candidate for film of the year, ‘The Substance’ (2024) is a recently released body horror film starring Demi Moore and is the second film of Coralie Fargeat. Like other entries in the genre, the film has a good deal of shock value and unnerving sequences that are in perfect tune for this Halloween season. However, ‘The Substance’ transcends this genre as it is not merely a modern attempt at a Cronenberg style body deconstruction, but a compelling look into the struggles of aging actresses and the idea of a double identity. All have been previously seen in cinema, but it is with this film that all are combined to create an experience that is as distressing as it is disturbing. One that is certainly worth checking out in anticipation for awards season. Things to do: Subscribe to The Hollywood Insider’s YouTube Channel, by clicking here. Limited Time...

Out of all the big-budget blockbusters Jake Gyllenhaal has landed in his career, the 2004 sci-fi-action piece The Day After Tomorrow most certainly wasn’t one. Although it more or less received some fans’ appreciation, a majority of the critics were still as displeased by it as ever, even though it managed to become a considerable commercial success.

Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, was rather disgruntled with the piece himself. While it was one of his initial experiences working on a big-budget project, the actor had quite a few issues with it. As he didn’t hesitate to let known to everyone, one of his biggest problems was his dialogue for the film, which he had a hard time translating to the screens.

French director and screenwriter Coralie Fargeat is back with a bang after her 2017 debut feature film “Revenge.” A powerful voice in reiterating gender issues, her works challenge societal norms and gender stereotypes, often exploring themes of rebirth, female empowerment, and the complexities of human nature. In her sophomore feature “The Substance” (2024), she continues her winning streak with her characteristic “blunt, bloody, and stylish” films, which are a fusion of exploitation and feminism.
It is a mind-blowing and gasp-inducing farcical film belonging to the genre of body horror/splatter film that challenges stereotypical conceptions of body image, beauty standards, and aging. In “The Substance,” Coralie Fargeat refashions the Jekyll and Hyde trope to develop a story in which a fading celebrity Elisabeth Sparkle uses a cell-replicating injectable substance to swap bodies with a younger, hotter, better version of herself. In the subsequent feud with the manifestation of her enhanced self, she...

“The Substance” is the new ‘satirical’ body horror feature, written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, following a ‘fading celebrity’ who uses a black market drug to create a much younger version of herself, now playing in theaters:
“…on her 50th birthday, ‘Elisabeth Sparkle’, a once-celebrated, now-faded Hollywood movie star, is unceremoniously dismissed from the long-running aerobics TV show she hosted, with producer ‘Harvey’ citing her advanced age as the reason.
“While driving home, Elisabeth is distracted by a billboard featuring herself being taken down, causing an accident. During a hospital check-up, a nurse slips her a flash drive advertising ‘The Substance’, a serum that generates a ‘younger, more beautiful, more perfect’ counterpart.
“After some deliberation, Elisabeth orders The Substance and injects the single-use activator serum, causing a much younger version of herself to emerge from her body called ‘Sue’…”

Most moviegoers can’t remember the last time they saw silly, campy fun on the big screen. That’s because not nearly enough of them saw Bottoms.
“Camp” in comedy is hard to define scientifically, and it’s mostly understood through examples. For instance, The Rocky Horror Picture show is considered the quintessential camp flick for its over-the-top performances, garish aesthetic and the inherent silliness of its excess. But, hey, nobody saw that movie in theaters either. In fact, it’s kind of an unspoken rule that campy comedy films can’t make a single dollar at the box office, a standard that the literal camp comedy classic Wet Hot American Summer staunchly upheld upon its release in 2001.
However, and though many of these camp comedies failed to achieve mainstream popularity, they succeeded in influencing the next generation of filmmakers who would carry on the tradition of unashamed, unrestrained playfulness,...

That said, when they did split up, a lot of rumors started swirling around how the reason for their split was alleged infidelity, with Ryan’s affair with Russell Crowe catching serious limelight. However, as it turns out, the actress never left Quaid because of Crowe, nor did she ever blame him for breaking her marriage. Rather, it seemed like the blame was on her ex-husband himself.

A couple of months ago, Jaws 3D (as well as Jaws: The Revenge) was released on 4K Ultra HD, but the release came under fire because it appears that some fairly aggressive AI was used to help restore the movie. Owing to the 3D process used to film the movie—which divided a 35mm film frame in half along the middle—Jaws 3D has never been the best-looking movie on home media. The film has always had a great deal of grain and some frame distortion, but the AI processing has smoothed things over just a little too much, as well as turning the background characters into rather horrifying creatures. We dig into the 4K release in the video embedded above, and you can also see some images of the AI upscales in the embeds below:
If these screen grabs from reddit are true, then the Jaws 3 and 4K Uhd's are just AI upscales.

Few films have managed to do what Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick did. Even though Top Gun was released decades before the 2022 film came around, it managed to outshine the original’s success, not only earning an Academy Award nomination but also finding a timeless place in popular culture.

One of the main reasons for the project’s success was that it brought back actors who were key players in the 1986 film. With this, one cannot help but wonder why Meg Ryan wasn’t among them, even though it could have done a lot for both, the film, and her professional life.
During an interview, the director of the film, Joseph Kosinski, revealed the reason why some actors from the past weren’t brought back, and the answer is quite unfortunate for Ryan.

The 1970s saw an explosion of TV-movies, and a number of these small-screen features were based on novels. The two examples here, which are some of the most memorable of their day, sit on opposite ends of the adaptation spectrum. While Bad Ronald (1974) took liberties with its source material, Are You in the House Alone? (1978) stays somewhat true to the spirit of the novel. Both features also teeter on the edge of horror, a recurring genre in the “golden age” of made-for-television movies.
Jack Vance was not a horror-only author, so Bad Ronald (1973) is an anomaly in his overall body of work. ABC quickly acted on the success of the novel, with the network ultimately airing its adaptation a week before Halloween. However, Andrew Peter Marin’s screenplay is different from what Vance had penned. Anyone who has read the original novel would understand — maybe even appreciate — the changes in director Buzz Kulik’s version.

Unnamed at the time, the animal is said to have walked over to Dorman’s wheelchair and put his head in the boy’s lap. Whoopi Goldberg gave Zachary Levi a little lesson in Hollywood on The View after the Shazam star said his endorsement for Donald Trump could end his career.
Levi swore his vote for the twice-impeached former president of the United States in a rally in Michigan over the weekend. When the topic came up on the ABC talk show, Goldberg had a gripe with the Chuck alum, saying Hollywood was a “very, very liberal town” that could cost him work in the industry.
“That’s not necessarily true,” Goldberg said. “From the beginning of Hollywood, it’s always been a very right-leaning town. But I know you don’t know much about the Hollywood history, so let me school you.”
Goldberg continued, “We are, like America is, we’re a mixed bunch. And sometime it may seem like there’s more Democrats and sometimes it seems like there’s more Republicans.
