The Oldenburg Film Festival and Brussels-based Cold Wave/Electro-Rock musical duo Pornographie Exclusive have taken this to heart. On Friday evening, they will put on a special show in the form of the world premiere of an anthology film called One-Way Ticket to the Other Side, accompanied by a live gig by Pornographie Exclusive (Pe), at Oldenburg’s State Theater.

The organizers promise to take audiences on a “road trip through the labyrinths of the human psyche.”

Exclusive: After a two-year journey to gain back the rights to The Way, Emilio Estevez has arranged with Fathom Events to re-release the film nationwide on May 16 on about 800 screens or more. The effort has led to not only a chance to dust off a 12-year old film, but also to start progress on a sequel.

The film was scripted and directed by Estevez, partly inspired by the Jack Hitt book Off The Road: A Modern Day Walk Down the Pilgrim’s Route Into Spain. The film starred Estevez’s dad, Martin Sheen, and the director played the small role of a man who died while making the pilgrimage called El Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. The first time Nicolas Winding Refn returned home to Denmark from L.A., it was out of financial necessity.

After the barnstorming success of his first two films, Pusher (1996) and Bleeder (1999), Copenhagen-set crime dramas starring a then-unknown actor by the name of Mads Mikkelsen, Refn went Hollywood with the ambitious psychological thriller Fear X (2003) starring John Turturro and Deborah Kara Unger. But Fear X bombed so badly, it forced Refn’s film company Jang Go Star into bankruptcy and sent the director home to try to repay a 5.5 million, in Danish currency, debt with a pair of Pusher sequels.

Late-career redemption came with Drive (2011), starring Ryan Gosling, which won Refn the best director honor in Cannes (and picked up an Oscar nomination for best sound editing), and The Neon Demon (2016), another LA-set film, which established Refn’s trippy, neon-tinged aesthetic among a growing based of art-house fans.

“Return to Silent Hill,” a horror film based on the classic Konami survival/horror video game series, is in development. The news was announced at the end of a livestream dedicated to announcing new titles in the franchise.

Christophe Gans, who directed 2006’s “Silent Hill,” based on the first game in the series, was confirmed to direct the film. He appeared in a video message during the livestream to discuss the project. In addition, Victor Hadida, who executive produced the 2006 film, will produce “Return.” Gans confirmed that the movie would adapt the second game in the franchise, which was announced to receive an upcoming remake for the Playstation 5 during the same livestream.

“The film tells a story of a young guy coming back to Silent Hill, where he has known a great love,” Gans said during the livestream. “And what he is going to find is a pure nightmare.”

We’re told her former foster child has been looking for quite some time, perhaps helped in part by her Princeton-graduate, Hamptons-vacationing jock of a boyfriend’s (Nolan Gerard Funk’s Jack) money. Well, she finally has a lead thanks to the owner (King Orba’s Frank) of an old plantation down in Charleston—apparently near where she was born. He’s invited her to come stay and hear what he knows to point her in the right direction. Jack agrees to accompany her despite seeming like the kind of guy who’s never gone below the Mason-Dixon line in his life, declaring his undying love before throwing her to the wolves that are his parents on the way down.

It’s the usual introduction for this type of film: urban comfort making way towards backwoods anxiety.

David Cronenberg will receive the honorary Donostia Award at the 70th San Sebastian Film Festival. The gala ceremony will be followed by the presentation of Cronenberg’s latest film, “Crimes of the Future,” a daring science fiction movie starring Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart and Lea Seydoux. The movie world premiered in competition at Cannes.

The celebrated Canadian filmmaker has so far directed 20 features including works considered today to be the classics of genres like sci-fi, horror, psychological drama and thriller.

San Sebastian previously welcomed Cronenberg in 2004 for the screening of “Crash” as part of the Incorrect@s retrospective, as well as in 2007 for the premiere of “Eastern Promises” on opening night.

“Succession” is one of HBO’s most acclaimed drama series and an Emmy frontrunner in 2020, and its popularity has been bolstered in part by its addicting opening credits sequence. The 90-second sequence is set to Nicholas Britell’s Emmy-winning original theme music and cuts together footage of the New York City skyline with home video footage of the Roy family. The grainy home videos remind viewers about the privilege and isolation of the Roy family at the start of each episode. It turns out this now-classic opening credits sequence owes a lot of credit David Fincher, who crafted virtually the same sequence to open his 1997 mystery thriller “The Game.” Both openings have been embedded in videos below.

The term "cult" as it refers to film today has become little more than a marketing cliché. So very few films truly merit the designation. The defining attribute of any true cult film is the quality of transgression: visions and/or portrayals that defy established modes of discourse and/or codes of conduct. Crash achieves multiple transgressions in its 100-minute running time. Cronenberg's Crash is a faithful adaptation of the psychosexual novel by "New Wave" science-fiction author J. G. Ballard (1930-2009). It involves a cult whose members seek sexual gratification from being in car crashes. The transgressive subject matter of the source novel was leveraged by Cronenberg, who was philosophically predisposed to undertake the adaptation to film. "Leave us alone!" FilmRise has debuted an official trailer for a new action film titled Vengeance: A Love Story, adapted from the Joyce Carol Oates novel titled Rape: A Love Story. The story is about a local police officer who goes for vengeance when a local gang rapes a woman. The criminals find a way to walk away free thanks to a hot shot lawyer, and so the detective takes matters into his own hands. So…drugs, right? Based on Hunter S. Thompson’s 1971 novel of the same title, Fear and Loathing stars Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, respectively. The pair is heading to Sin City, speeding through the Nevada desert, under the influence of mescaline. From there, the film is series a bizarre hallucinations seen through the eyes of Duke. So, we jump from hotel room to hotel room, all of the action a blur of what is happening and what really isn’t. Throughout the course of the film, Duke and/or Gonzo ingest the following drugs: mescaline, sunshine acid, diethyl ether, LSD, cocaine, and adenochrome (probably more). As Alfonso Cuaron’s mega-hit Gravity continues to rack up praise and big box office dollars, it’s a good time to take a critical look at the weakest aspect of the film, which is the lead acting performance of Sandra Bullock.

It’s widely known that Cuaron’s first choice, Angelina Jolie, fell through and there were reported meetings with Marion Cotillard, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, and Natalie Portman among other candidates, before Bullock was ultimately chosen.

These other contenders are clearly talented but they are still part of a group that could easily be called Hollywood Casting 101.

While the film’s financiers would disagree, Gravity is not a film that needed big stars, as the presence of George Clooney and Sandra Bullock is far less a contributor to its enormous success than the film’s suspense thriller concept and visually striking execution.

Well, thanks to the glory of the interwebs, you can now spend the rest of the day hiding out from your boss and watching it in full. Penned by Barry Gifford ("Wild At Heart" author, "Lost Highway") and Jay McInerney (“Bright Lights, Big City”), the miniseries chronicles the lives of folks passing through a hotel in 1969, 1992 and 1936 (in that order). Django Unchained; Trouble With the Curve; Vehicle 19; A Dark Truth

Quentin Tarantino is a lot of things, but concise isn't one of them. Buried inside the sprawling 165 minutes of Django Unchained (2012, Sony, 18), there's a very decent two-hour retro-ploitation romp struggling to escape the indulgence of Hollywood's most under-edited auteur. On the plus side, we have knife-sharp central performances from Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz as (respectively) the recently freed titular slave and sharpshooting "dentist" Dr King Schultz, on a mission to rescue Django's wife from the slimy clutches of Leonardo DiCaprio's Calvin Candie.

The real jaw-dropper, however, is a brilliantly counterintuitive turn from Samuel L Jackson as Candie's insanely loyal house-servant, Stephen, a terrifying portrait of head-turned devotion that offers the film's most potentially radical element. It's here that whatever rude "politics" this possesses (including the usual fetishisation of the "N word") has gnarly bite. Elsewhere, it's more fan-boyish fare,...

Military massacres, corporate cover-ups, and water wars abound in the film A Dark Truth. When a large corporation's water facilities in Ecuador unleash a typhus outbreak, the local militia (who is in cahoots with said corporation) guns down the village to cover up the incident. A whistleblower within the company (the CEO's own sister no less—played by Deborah Kara Unger) hires ex-cia agent Jack Begosian (Andy Garcia) to run down there (from Canada) and find the only survivors (the unlikely married couple: Forest Whitaker and Eva Longoria) who have the proof of what happened.

Chicago – You may be rolling your eyes. Oh, look, another critic ripping on a bad horror movie. But you may not know that not only am I a horror movie fan in general but I particularly liked the first “Silent Hill” film, to the point that I’m quoted on the DVD case for the flick. I approached the critically reviled “Silent Hill: Revelation” thinking that I might again be in the minority but would be happy to be so. I am not. This is a bad, bad, bad movie, breathtakingly incompetent in ways that can be fascinating when they’re not so straight-up stupid.

In the jungles of Ecuador, a multinational conglomerate’s unholy alliance with a bloodthirsty military regime has resulted in a massacre. Only the rebel Francisco Franco (Whitaker) and his determined wife Mia (Longoria) can prove the truth.
