After stealing the hearts of rom-com fans, tornado enthusiasts and hitmen this year, Glen Powell finally has his next major role dated for 2025.

He’ll star in director Edgar Wright’s remake of “The Running Man,” which is being released by Paramount on Nov. 21, 2025, the company announced Friday. Powell is taking on the role originated by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 action film, based on the novel by Stephen King. The film takes place in a dystopian future where a TV show follows criminal “runners” escape professional killers.

AMC’s anthology series “The Terror” is returning to AMC with “The Terror: Devil in Silver,” starring and executive produced by Dan Stevens. The third season of AMC’s anthology The Terror has filled out is principal cast with some big names.

Season three, subtitled Devil in Silver, will star Dan Stevens as a man who’s wrongly committed to a psychiatric hospital and finds himself fighting a supernatural force. The series has added a dozen actors to its cast, filling out the regular cast as production gets underway.

The new additions are Emmy winner Judith Light, Cch Pounder (Rustin, The Shield), Chinaza Uche (Dickinson), Hampton Fluker (Shades of Blue), b (You), Aasif Mandvi (Evil), John Benjamin Hickey (The Big C), Stephen Root (Barry), Hayward Leach (Tom Swift), Michael Aronov (The Americans), Marin Ireland (Justified: City Primeval) and Phillip Ettinger (First Reformed). Details on their roles are being kept quiet for now.

The Terror premiered in 2018; a second season aired in 2019, but the anthology lay dormant until AMC picked up a third season in February.

Looks like Det. Bruno has proved his worth to Capt. Benson: Kevin Kane has been promoted to series regular at Law & Order: Svu, our sister site Deadline reports.

Bruno’s character debuted in Season 24, when Benson’s team became involved in a case under the jurisdiction of Bronx Svu, where Bruno then worked. The character eventually joined Liv and the gang in Manhattan, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Kane was a recurring cast member who last appeared in Season 25’s Episode 13.

“The Terror” Season 3 has rounded out its main cast, Variety has learned.

A dozen actors have now joined previously announced lead Dan Stevens in the new season, which is officially titled “The Terror: Devil in Silver.” It is based on the novel “The Devil in Silver” written by Victor Lavalle.

The new additions are: Judith Light, Cch Pounder, Chinaza Uche, Hampton Fluker, b, Aasif Mandvi, John Benjamin Hickey, Stephen Root, Hayward Leach, Michael Aronov, Marin Ireland, and Philip Ettinger.

Exclusive: Paramount has rounded out the cast for its untitled Naked Gun reboot with four additions: Liza Koshy (Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts), current WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes, Cch Pounder (Rustin) and Busta Rhymes.

No word on the roles they’re playing, but we’re told Rhodes will only be making a cameo. As previously announced, Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand and Danny Huston will also star. Neeson plays Detective Frank Drebin, with Hauser as his partner Ed. Roles for Anderson and Huston haven’t yet emerged, though it’s understood that Durand will be playing the film’s villain.

Akiva Schaffer is directing and exec producing the comedy, slated for release on July 18, 2025. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand wrote the draft script along with Schaffer. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing via Fuzzy Door, with Daniel M. Stillman also serving as EP.

The Palm Springs Film Awards will honor Paul Giamatti with the Icon Award for his performance in “The Holdovers.” He will receive the award at the Jan. 4 event at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Rustin, Netflix’s biopic of civil rights icon Bayard Rustin. Colman Domingo stars in the film, which is directed by Tony winner George C. Wolfe and hit theaters and the streamer in November after its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.

The screenplay co-written by Julian Breece and Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black focuses on one of the main architects of the 1963 March on Washington, where more than 200,000 hear Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the National Mall. Rustin was a fulcrum in the civil rights movement, working alongside the likes of King, Adam Clayton Powell Jr and Ella Baker, though as an openly gay man in that era he often had to work behind the scenes. He challenged authority and never apologized for who he was or what he believed.

Bayard Rustin is getting a posthumous honor from the City of New York.

The civil rights leader is at the center of a new New York City holiday, with Mayor Eric Adams declaring November 3 officially Bayard Rustin Day. Netflix film “Rustin” premieres in select theaters today, November 3, followed by a streaming release November 17.

A special screening of the film at the Paris Theatre is organized by Netflix for 300 high school and city college students to mark Bayard Rustin Day, “honoring the legacy of one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known, Bayard Rustin,” per the official release. The celebration at City Hall follows the screening, with a proclamation being handed to the late Rustin’s partner Walter Naegle designating November 3 as Bayard Rustin Day in NYC and celebrating the theatrical release of the film. Naegle also serves as the executive director of the Bayard Rustin Fund.

George C. Wolfe’s biopic of Bayard Rustin (Colman Domingo), the civil rights activist who helped put together one of the largest peaceful protests in American history in 1963, takes on added resonance in the wake of recent violence in Israel and Gaza. The March for Freedom and Jobs on Washington and the current protests around the world in support of Palestinians are separated by decades and origins, and while Rustin doesn’t bridge the gap between these events, it reminds one of how much activism has changed over six decades.

Rustin, which tracks the eight-week breakneck race to get multiple civil rights organizations, like the N.A.A.C.P., to cooperate and get 100,000 peaceful protesters down to the National Mall hums along, at an agreeable tempo. Wolfe and screenwriters Julian Brece and Dustin Lance Black conjure the events in a crowd-pleasing manner. This is a film that doesn’t want for soliloquies.

Colman Domingo is demanding the spotlight for his next film role. The "Candyman" and "Euphoria" actor portrays queer civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in Netflix's upcoming biopic, "Rustin." Per the streamer, the movie will chronicle Rustin's rise as the "architect of 1963's momentous March on Washington," where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech. According to the movie's trailers, which arrived on Aug. 28 and Oct. 19, "Rustin" is also expected to spotlight some of the obstacles the titular figure faced during his lifetime, including police brutality and criticism over his sexuality.

Netflix this morning dropped the full-length trailer for its civil rights-themed biopic “Rustin,” executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama through their Higher Ground production company and starring Emmy winner Colman Domingo in the lead. Patrick Schweitzer has been named the new CEO of Red Production Company, the U.K. producer behind such hits as It’s a Sin, Years and Years and the upcoming Neil Gaiman-adapted fantasy series Anansi Boys.

Red parent company Studiocanal unveiled the news on Monday, with Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh calling Schweitzer “an incredible asset to Red. He already has an extraordinary portfolio of drama to his name and an innate ability to create programming that is relatable to every kind of audience…Patrick’s relationships with writers, acting talent, broadcasters and his team members are second to none. We are thrilled to know that Red is in such excellent hands.”

Over his 30-year-career in television, Schweitzer has worked on such high-end drama series as Grace, Redemption and Whitechapel for ITV, Sky’s hit Gangs of London and Save Me, and such BBC shows as Ssgb, The Interceptor and Doctor Who.

NewFest has announced its full lineup for the 35th milestone anniversary year of its annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival. The announcement was made today by NewFest’s Executive Director David Hatkoff and Director of Programming Nick McCarthy.

The 2023 special 35th anniversary edition of NewFest’s flagship festival will remain hybrid and take place from October 12 – 22 in theaters within New York, and virtually throughout the United States on NewFest’s on-demand platform through October 24. The festival’s in-person premieres will take place in Manhattan at Sva Theatre and The LGBT Community Center, and in Brooklyn at Nitehawk Prospect Park and The Brooklyn Academy of Music (Bam).

“Rustin,” which was produced by former President Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground, tells the story of how Rustin organized the 1963 March on Washington and his many other contributions to the civil rights movement. He was a close advisor to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and in his later years, lent his voice to LGBTQ causes. He was the first person to raise the awareness of the NAACP about the AIDS crisis. He died in 1987 and was awarded a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.

NewFest has announced its opening night, closing night and New York Centerpiece selections for its 35th anniversary edition.

The New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Film Festival will open with the Colman Domingo-led biopic Rustin, directed by DGA award and five-time Tony winner George C. Wolfe, and close with Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers, starring Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.

The festival’s executive director David Hatkoff and director of programming Nick McCarthy have also announced that the world premiere of the Billy Porter-narrated doc Queen of New York, from Emmy award-nominated director Emma Fidel, will serve as this year’s New York Centerpiece screening.

Colman Domingo blows through the title role like a force of nature in Rustin, an exhilarating biographical drama about the highly significant but not widely known civil rights leader Bayard Rustin, whose career and reputation in the 1960s were minimized, at least in part, by his hardly disguised homosexuality.

Director George C. Wolfe is best known for his extensive work in the theater, and what he has delivered here is exciting in several ways as it roars out of the gate, maintains an unflagging momentum all the way and will leave most viewers knowing a good deal more about the civil rights movement than they did the day before.

This is a film for anyone remotely interested in the issues of the time and, especially in some of its lesser known aspects of, and disagreements with, the movement that have often been quietly pushed to the side.

All of Us Strangers

Deadline’s takeaway: The film asks a lot of questions, but the answers are not supplied easily. It is a challenging work as much of Andrew Haigh’s character-driven filmography often is, but one that offers rich rewards if you sign on to it at all.

Although “Saltburn” and “Rustin” are both inherently queer period pieces with highly committed lead actors at the forefront, their respective stars Barry Keoghan and Colman Domingo give two performances that are working toward a Best Oscar nomination from opposite ends.

If one were to have fallen in love with Keoghan last year based on his role in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which earned him a Best Supporting Actor nod, they might be thrown off by his arch turn in Emerald Fennell’s sophomore effort depicting an Oxford student that fighting to stay in the good graces of his aristocratic classmate. After watching the film, “The Talented Mr. Ripley” may be an apt comparison, but that does not do justice to just how willing Keoghan is to reach new depths in “Saltburn.” He is much more in “The Killing of Sacred Deer” mode here, which coincidentally is the film Fennell has...
