Angus Benfield was born in Sydney, Australia and started working in the film and television industry when he was 14. Landing his big break straight out of acting school as lead Lex in cult classic feature film Lex and Rory (1994) directed by Dean Murphy, he then went on to act in Australian TV series E Street (1989) as Cody Ryder alongside The Mentalist (2008) Simon Baker.
Angus moved to New Zealand in 1999 to star as Officer Tom in the New Zealand TV series Kaitangata Twitch (2010). In 2005 Angus won the Best Actor award at the 48 Hour Film Festival and went on to star as lead Jack in the 2006 New Zealand indie feature film Wait Up Harriet (2006), and as lead Pastor Luke in the 2010 feature film The Holy Roller (2010).
Angus moved to LA with his family in 2017 to star as lovable motivational speaker Fatty Melvin alongside The Waltons (1972) Judy Norton in the feature film Motorvation (2022), for which he won Best Actor at the Canadian Cinematography Awards and the New York Cinematography Awards in 2020, and at the Eastern Europe International Movie Awards in 2021. Motorvation (2022) was released throughout the US in May 2022. In 2019 Angus starred as the illegal casino owner Willy Hollingsworth on CBS's NCIS: Los Angeles (2009) alongside LL Cool J, Eric Christian Olsen and Chris O'Donnell and played real-life lawyer Paul Hoffman in the feature film A Fire Within (2022).
Angus starred as lead Jonathan Stone alongside Hollywood icon Eric Roberts in the feature film Heaven (2020), which was released throughout the US in October 2020, and most recently, Angus co-starred as Steve Lagos in the 2022 Shonda Rhimes American drama miniseries for Netflix, Inventing Anna (2022), alongside Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky and as lead Jake in the feature film Yellow Bird (2023), featuring Brian Doyle-Murray and Kathy Garver. Also in 2023 Angus starred as lead Connor McCloud in the feature film The Great Turkey Town Miracle (2023) alongside Cameron Arnett, lead Joe Fortune in the feature film Purgatory Station alongside Bob Gunton and Sean O'Bryan, and lead Jet Sanders in The Post (2023).
Angus is an incredibly versatile actor who brings depth, dramatic poise, and a rare genius for comedic acting to his roles. Along with starring in numerous TV commercials in the U.S.A, Australia, and New Zealand, Angus also enjoys a successful career of screenwriting, producing and directing.
