"If this were to spiral out of control..." Saban Films has released an official US trailer for the indie horror Initiation, the latest from director John Berardo (also of The Labyrinth). This premiered at the Sitges & Screamfest Film Festivals last fall, and it will be arriving on VOD this May. Whiton University unravels the night a star-athlete is found murdered in his dorm during pledge week, kicking off a spree of social media slayings that force the students to uncover the truth behind the school's hidden secrets and the horrifying meaning of an exclamation point. What does it all mean, Basil?! Lindsay Lavanchy (who also co-wrote the script) co-stars with Jon Huertas, Isabella Gomez, Froy Gutierrez, Gattlin Griffith, Patrick Walker, Bart Johnson, Shireen Lai, Kent Faulcon, Yancy Butler and Lochlyn Munro. This looks like some crazy campus serial killer horror, not so much any commentary on university culture. Check it out.

There's no need to ponder whether Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse TV show will be cancelled or renewed for season seven. When Own renewed the drama for season six, back in January of this year, the cable network made it clear this would be the sitcom's sixth and final season. Although it is ending, we are still tracking the ratings for a few reasons. Sometimes, networks change their minds and order another season. Also, it's fun. Finally, the For Better or Worse ratings give us a yardstick by which to measure the performance of other Own TV series. A romantic comedy, For Better or Worse centers on a lovesick married couple, Marcus “Mj” Williams Jr. (Michael Jai White) and his wife Angela (Tasha Smith). The rest of the Own cast includes Brad James, Cocoa Brown, Crystle Stewart, Jason Olive, Kent Faulcon, Brad James, Chandra...

On Saturday, nearly 30,000 people assembled in New York City’s Washington Square Park for "Millions March NYC," a demonstration protesting the grand jury's decision not to indict an NYPD officer in the death of Staten Island resident Eric Garner, along with broader racial issues that have bubbled to the surface in America throughout 2014. On Sunday, Paramount Pictures held its east coast premiere for director Ava DuVernay’s "Selma" at the city’s lavish Ziegfeld Theater. With a fleet of photographers ready to snap their photos, DuVernay and her cast took advantage of the stage, donning shirts emblazoned with "I Can’t Breathe," Garner’s final words and the unofficial protest slogan, for a striking group photo. The example set the night before could not go unacknowledged. The picture features DuVernay with stars David Oyelowo, E. Roger Mitchell, Wendell Pierce, Omar Dorsey, John Lavelle, Stephan James, Kent Faulcon, Lorraine Toussaint, Andre Holland,...
