Songwriter ("Girl of My Dreams"), composer, oboist and arranger, educated at the Vienna Conservatory (Grand prize). He was an oboist in the Austrian army band, and he came to the USA in 1896, eventually playing in the Victor Herbert orchestra. He became an arranger for Witmark Music, and wrote the Broadway stage scores for "Three Twins", "Madame Sherry", "The Girl of My Dreams", "The Fascinating Widow", and "The Wall Street Girl". Joining ASCAP in 1930, his chief musical collaborators included Otto Harbach and Benjamin Hapgood Burt. His other popular-song compositions include "Cuddle Up a Little Closer, Lovey Mine", "Yama Yama Man", "Bright Eyes", "Doctor Tinkle Tinker", "Every Little Movement Has a Meaning All Its Own", "The Fascinating Widow", "I Want a Regular Man", "The Smile She Means for Me", and "The Mood You're In".
