She is close friends with her Prison Break (2005) co-star, Wentworth Miller.

Her character Sara on Prison Break (2005) was written out of the show's third season because of her pregnancy. Sara was killed off, but was brought back for the fourth season. It was explained that her "death" was staged.

She is the daughter of two University Professors, her father is a Law Professor and her mother is a English Professor at University of Hawaii.

Has two children with her husband Josh Winterhalt - a daughter Keala Wayne Winterhalt (b. July 20, 2007) and a son Oakes Wayne Winterhalt (b. August 2013, adopted).

On July 21, 2002, Callies married Josh Winterhalt, whom she met at Dartmouth College. Winterhalt is a martial arts teacher.

She speaks basic Hawaiian and enjoys traditional Hawaiian music.

After the death of a family member she and her family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1978.

She likes dancing the Argentine tango and has taken up low-flying trapeze.

Her maternal grandfather was a Hungarian Jewish immigrant. She also has German and Czech ancestry.

Graduated from Dartmouth College (in Hanover, New Hampshire) in 1999 with an undergraduate emphasis in Feminist Studies and a Senior Fellowship in Indigenous Theology.

Gave birth to her 1st child at age 30, a daughter named Keala Wayne Winterhalt on July 20, 2007. Child's father is her husband, Josh Winterhalt.
