Malibongwe Mdwaba is a popular South African actor, voice over artist and social activist. He was born in Khayelitsha, Cape Town and graduated with an A class average at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg - enrolled for a Theatre and Performance Honours Degree in Performing Studies and Musical Theatre.
He started acting in church stage plays in his leisure time. Mdwaba flourished in Sunday school plays and developed great love for arts. His first major breakthrough came when he featured in the Mzansi Magic Film 'Ubudoda'. He played the lead role of Athi Mthimkhulu, son of seasoned actors Jet Novuka and Zandile Msutwana.
His acting skills and maverick personality grabbed many eyeballs and he started getting recognition and accolades for his work in the South African entertainment industry. The viewers became captivated with his acting prowess.
The early success was followed by a series of projects including Romeo & Romeo, Isithembiso, MTV Shuga, UNina, UMayano, UMama, BET's Isoni, Netflix's Justice Served and Disney+Hotstar's Pirates.
Malibongwe was nominated at the Smart Living Drama Festival held at the Baxter Theatre. He came 4th in the category for Best Actor and won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Garden Route International Film Festival in 2020.
Apart from his acting career, Mdwaba is actively helping in empowering young minds through his outreach programs in Khayelitsha, Capetown and Hillbrow and Alexandra in Johannesburg. He is also the founder of Indibano - The Encounter, a community organization that aims to bridge the gap between emerging creatives and industry professionals in South Africa.
The versatile artist travels extensively to various film and arts festivals around the country. He is also a gym junkie who admires nature even while wearing several hats. He intends to keep learning and enhancing his skill set while working for the upliftment of communities at large. He wants to create a legacy by leaving a mark and making a difference in the long run.
